At some towns the train stations are quite far from the town centre. For instance the old cores of Merano, Bressanone, Vipiteno are very far from their train stations. Thus, I suggest to take a bus or a taxi to get to the town centre.

On one hike we intended to take the rather easy "Agatha Christie Path" to get an impression of what the famous Latemar Labyrinth was like without having to climb rocks and overcoming a lot of altitude difference.
We did fine at first, but then apparently we lost our track and when we realized it we were in the middle of the rather strenous walking path # 20 through the Labyrinth itself!
We did manage - and we did quite enjoy it (after it was over....), but it sure was a warning to us to pay better attention to the signs the next time!

In the Welschnofen/Nova Levante area picking mushrooms is generally forbidden. If you do it anyway and you are cought, be prepared to pay a high fine of 51,00 Euro + 30,00 Euro per kg of collected mushrooms!
In some areas it is permitted, but you need to obtain a permission paper, which costs 5 € and then you have to obey quite a few rules, like a litmit of 1 kg per person per day, picking mushrooms only on even days from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. etc.!
