Castellina in Chianti was important communication link between the large Mediteranian Etruscan cities like Vulci, Vetulonia and Rosella, as well as the famous trading centres of the north like Spina.
The impressive Etruscan Chamber Tomb of Monte Calvario has a diameter of 53 metres and contains four underground burial places. There is one big death chamber and lateral smaller cells.

Fonterutoli

Fonterutoli is enchanting village in the close surrounding of Castellina in Chianti. The place deriving it name from the Latin "fons Rutilus", which means clean spring. The castle of Fonterutoli is located on the border line between the cities of Siena and Firenze. Unfortunatelly little is left of the original castle.
