Via Nazionale is one of the main streets in Cortona and, in addition to restaurants and the tourism office, is where you will find a great variety of shops and boutiques for your purchasing pleasure.
What to buy: There are several leather good shops. There are many fantastic shoe stores both on Via Nazionale and bordering on the Piazza. There are a few enotecas towards the end or further away from the Piazza where you can buy wine, dried pasta or the very special white or black truffle oils. Galleries and art shops. Crafts shops and ceramics. Whatever you need or desire, you can likely find on this street!

Antichità Beato Angelico is a fantastic little antique shop on Via Nazionale in Cortona, just across the street from the Caffe degli Artisti. Full of unique jewelry, antiques, fans, and crafts... there are many different treasures for you to explore and maybe port home to commemorate your trip.
What to buy: I bought the MOST fantastic 5" little ceramic "puppets" from this shop. They are hand-painted figurines, dried in the sun, with movable arms. There are jesters, dames, gents, nuns, popes and more...
After stopping every single time that I walked past the store, I couldn't leave Cortona without taking home three of these little gems. A flying nun, court jester and Swiss guard made the journey home to Canada.
As I laughed with the woman who owns the shop, a few should be bought, and justified, each time one visits Cortona.
I cannot wait for my next trip to add to my collection.

It's quite amazing what a little publicity can do. There was a painting sitting in a gallery then someone gave it a rap in the 1920's and the rush was on. The fact that there are many superior works...
