Favorite thing: At the centre of the very pretty fountain in porphyry is a winged putto in bronze, a copy of the original by Andrea del Verrocchio (1476) housed in the Palace Museum.
Galleria della Accademia.
Yes here is the authentic David, You czan not loose it, he is best that you imagine.
Favorite thing: This isn't anything important, I just walked by it while I was walking back from the river and though it looked cool.
Favorite thing: Cross the Arno and see the Plaza Pitti. Within, you will find the Boboli Gardens - a vast and impressive expanse of sculpture and (in best Monte Python voice) shrubbery.
Favorite thing: Wandering about the acreage of the Boboli Gardens, you will stumble upon a mixture of modern and classical sculpture.
Favorite thing: The baptistery door, it's not leaning, I was probably.......too many Chianti's glasses the night before??
Fondest memory: Santa Maria Novella church. You can see the Masaccio and Ghirlandaio works here, very beautiful frescoes.
Fondest memory: The palace architecture was built in 1299, changed many times inside, but keeps the outer look of 1400 until today..
Fondest memory: Seeing the David (this is the copy) after years of dreaming about it has to be my favourite memory of this wonderful city.
Favorite thing: You have to go around to the other side of the Cathedral to find the Museo dell' Opera del Duomo and more works of Michelangelo, Donatello and Della Robia (see travelogue)
My dream was to see one day all the sculptures that I have seen in History of Art classes.
Davi was in Florence. I could not miss!
Here you see the magnificient statue of David, made of course by Michelangelo himself.
This is located on L'Accademia...walking distance from the Duomo.
Favorite thing: These are the doors of the battistero, right next to the duomo. They're called the Golden Gate. Each square represents a story from the Bible.
Favorite thing: The beautiful Gardens of Boboli, behind the Pitti Palace, are good for a picnic and sunbathing, and the entrance is free.
