The Jazz Club, Florence

Being from New Orleans, I realize I am a jazz snob. Being inundated with excellent jazz does that to you. So, it was no surprise to me that the jazz here was average for my taste. However, the people I went with thoroughly enjoyed the music, and we all had a good time at this club, so all's well that ends well! The club is situated downstairs underground, and the people at the entrance will try to tell you that you have to be a member to enter. Just say that you are from out of town and are only here one night, and just like most of Italy, rules are bent.

The drinks here were amazingly strong, so much so that I coughed the first time I had a sip of mine. Strong and cheap; perfect. Now, if they could import NOLA musicians...

Dress Code: Jeans are fine, but nice shirts.

This is a fantastic little venue hidden away down a small back street. Hidden so well infact, it makes you wonder if they actually want you to find it.
Basically a 3 room smokey basement. First room is a bar, before the club opens out a little into a larger live music area with tables. There was a female vocalist and pianist (surprise uh?) on the night we went and it was very, very good... even if I don't know anything about jazz. Live music was broken up with tracks from Jamiroquai etc.
Downside to this place is that you have to purchase a "membership card" to enter for about 5 euros but its well worth it. Even with the waitress service, the drinks were still quite cheap compared to other places.

Check opening times first since even when this place is open, it's very easy to walk straight past it. (You're looking for a small glass door at the end of the back street - the only give-away is a small sticker with information about opening times)

Dress Code: None, but when you see the toilets you'll probably realise why.
