  • Your feet is the key to it all.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Use ultra comfortable shoes. The ancient city center has the pavement to match it. All very beautifull and authentic...but the pavement could be a true hell to walk in. Everything is so uneven. Its a killer for your feet and legs. Its almost comparable to cross country hiking. And everything here is by foot.

After planning everything out...your feet would be the breaking point during your trip.
You won't go to that great restaurant because its just to far.
You miss out on sights because your feet cant keep up with the pace.

So strongly suggest getting your best walking shoes. Forget about fashion...think comfort 1st , 2nd and last.

After 1 week my feet are still feeling tender.

PS its almost like a cross between weekend trip to NYC and natural park.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Shoes must be comfortable... that's it.
When your feet are tired after the whole day in Florence - forget about relaxation. Your eyes willn't give them any chance - they will force your tired body to make more moves - just to see one more piece of Florence.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Your best bet is to make sure you wear really comfortable walking shoes. Tennis shoes are best. Your best way to get around Florence and other cities is by foot--and in many towns there are steps to climb, like here in the Palazzo Vecchio. the view from the top is worth going up, and you'll be glad you brought your comfortable shoes.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Re: shoes- I knew there would be a lot of walking on the trip, so I prepared with a new white pair of walking/tennis style shoes- very comfortable. I learned AFTER my first trip that these are very uncool & branded me as a tourist. Oh well...

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: There are a lot of cobblestone streets so good walking shoes are a must. Also, if you go in the fall, bring an umbrella! I'm serious. It rains ALL THE TIME! I don't think we had but maybe 1/2 a sunny day out of 5 or 6! I personally didn't mind but I did however have an umbrella. They sell them too of course if you forget but it's better to have one. The price drastically goes up once the rain starts to fall!
