    Door detail

This detail of one panel from the Baptistry doors shows the three dimensional effect that Ghiberti achieved. Isn't it marvelous?

Colourful 13th century mosaics illustrating the Last Judgment decorate the ceiling above the octagonal font, where many famous Florentines, including Dante, were baptised.

Ghilberti's bronze baptistry doors, the 'doors of paradise', as Michaelangelo called them, are truly beautiful, as are the rest of the baptistry doors designed by Pisano.

Yes, they are replicas, but Ghiberti's doors are awesome. You will know why Michelangelo called them the 'doors to Paradise'.

The Baptistery, the oldest building in the city. The bronze esterior doors are a joy to behold and the mosaic celing inside even more so.
