Favorite thing: Portoferraio is the main Port in the Elba Island and it gives you the chance to join many touristic beaches as "Le ghiaie" or Capobianco. Portoferraio is also one of the two seats where Napoleone Bonaparte lives some years on isolation.

Favorite thing: Golfo Stella is a great corner of Elba Island on the way from Marina di Campo to Porto Azzurro. I took this picture while we were driving. It's possible to reach the rocky beach by foot but it' a hard thing to do!!

Favorite thing: Villa San Martino is located in the valley of San Martino, 5 kms from Portoferraio. It was Napoleon’s country residence. We didn't have time to check the interior but I've read the Egyptian Room and the Demidoff Gallery are worth of visiting.

Favorite thing: A visit at the Piccola Miniera, along the road to Rio Marina, can be very interesting as it was accurately reconstructed by the former miner Emilio Giacomelli. It is a loyal copy of how the ancient mines used to be on Elba and get around with a train that takes you through the caves embellished with stalactites and stalagmites, wagons and equpiment that were used while mining.

Favorite thing: I was told Portoferraio is very crowded town in summer. I visited it in September and was positively surprised - I nearly didn't see any tourists at all. I found it a very nice and peaceful place, perfect spot for a holiday.
The only thing I missed were showers on the beaches.

Favorite thing: Would you like to try some of Elba's best wines in Winecellars which are located just by the seaside? Nice view and good wine are good enough reasons. Often there are some more activities (such as swimming, horseback riding, ...) to do beside the wine cellars.

Favorite thing: You must use a map like these to discover every little place in this Island. it's easy to move from a place to another but if you are foreigner, dont' forget to buy it. With a map you will be able to choose where to go, but remember that every beach here has something to see:-)

Favorite thing: This picture shows the crystal green and blue water that you can see to Elba. When there is no wind the water is so quiet that invites you to jump in it!

Favorite thing: After we saw Napoleon's Country residence we were all rushing to the place where we could taste local Elba's wine. Yummy!

Favorite thing: Between Villa San Martino and park place there are few shops. Few guys were selling local wine (Elba's original) and we got a chance to try each sort possible. Isn't it obvious from our happy faces?
