Lunigiana is a very small mountain place between Emilia Romangna, Tuscany and Liguria, not far from sea but, actually in the hills.
I visited Locanda Gavarini for Easter Day 2008; actually it was very very crowded (and it has 300 seats so when everything is full can be very noisy) and there was an already decided menu. I would have preferred to choose by myself but honestly I liked every thing very much. Starters are very tasty, served with a sort of fried and hot bread, first courses are rich and there were also 2 second dishes. If you avoid national holiday, you will find a very pleasant atmosphere. They have also some rooms.
First courses cost 6 Euros, second from 10 to 14 euros, desserts 3-4 euros. It's not that much in comparison to other restaurant of the same niveau in Italy.
Favorite Dish: I had fantastic "pennette" (a sort of pasta) with vegetables and seafood

Lilia is a nice and kind ukrainian woman I know in Massa. As you can see from the picture, she makes wonderful cakes! Unfortunately, she doesn't sell her delicatessen but they're great gift for us!

Favorite Dish: I had Tagliolini all' aragostella, but I suggest to taste all the rest. Their speciality dishes are Tagliatelle al ragù di mare, Gnocchetti al filetto di sogliola, Seppia alla piastra and Spaghetti allo scoglio.

The shop is really small but the ice cream they sell is great! In summer, don't forget to stop for a big ice-cream cup. Just take a seat outside under the yellow umbrellas, relax and eat those delicacies...
Favorite Dish: My favourite ice cream??? Oops, I don't think I have one... I like them all. But creams are the best flavours, that's for sure. Don't miss the swan-shaped cup. It's really big!
