by train or by bus this trip to Piombino is not so expensive ( the price is about 15 euros by train and about 10 euros by bus). The best way to see the shore around piombino is of course by car or by motorcycle.
if u like bibicle this is a good chance to use it!
Get your tickets for the bus to Piombino Marritima in the train station at Piombino.Once in the port cross the road to some building and go upstairs to the ticket offices for the ferries, there are two ferry lines Moby and Toremar.
We got on the Moby Baby which was the next ferry leaving for Portoferrio in Elba, once you have your ticket walk staight onto the ferry quickly, as they don't hang about. Returning the same day cost us about
15 Euros each.
OR RATHER GETTING AWAY:- We returned on the 4.30 ferry The Moby Lally, prefered the Moby Baby as there was no outside seating on this one and it was hot in the bar.
Once back at Piombino Marritima,we had trouble finding the ticket office for the bus and train so, head back to the bus stop and with the bus stop behind you and the water on your right walk towards the solid wall once at the wall turn right and on that corner is the FS train and bus ticket office, Essential information we had been up and down stair looking for it no joke with a backpack in the heat.
By train from Lucca,we left catching the 17.45 changing at Pisa Centrale, arrived there at 18.13 and connection left at 18.43 to Campigilia Marritima arriving at 19.55 and changing here to get on a bus, all included in the train ticket, the Blue bus left from outside the station at 20.10 getting to Piombino at 20.29, which is where we got off it did continue on to Piombino Marritima if you wanted to get a late ferry, arriving at the port at 20.32.
Anyway we got off at the train station in Piombino 20yards from the Hotel Collodi.
