Favorite thing: Have spoken with several friends who took guided tours around Italy and of course they all come to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa, who wouldn't. But all of them said that after they had seen the tower and the other buildings of the Campo dei Mircoli, they trooped back onto their bus and left Pisa, missing one of the most beautiful spots, the banks of the Arno River.
The Arno River runs through the town of Pisa, cutting it in half and people have built bridges to reconnect the sides, making for a truly beautiful setting.
Also along the riverbanks are many impressive buildings like the church of Santa Maria del Sefina shown here and also just simple residences such as the reddish colored building I photographed, each a work of art on its own. So take the time to wander a little.

Pisa along the banks of the river Arno

Favorite thing: The name of Pisa signifies meadowland or delta, it is situated at the confulence of two rivers, The Arno and the Serchio. This two rivers, before they join, delimit an extensive area of marshland by which the city is isolated and defended.
Pisa is Europe's most ancient maritime city and has always kept alive the Ibero-Ligurian name given it by its founders.

Arno river

Fondest memory: I just loved this view. Standing on the bridge "Ponte Solferino" and looking over the Arno river towards the mountains in the back. The buildings along the river are very nice and when the sun is shining you'll have a beautiful reflection in the water, which was not the case on my pic, as we had a cloudy day.

Arno River

Favorite thing: Coming from Pisa Centrale (station), it was only a short walk towards the Arno River.

The street towards the River was very quiet, maybe because it was Sunday morning.

From one of the bridges which was crossing the Arno River I had this splendid view.

Fondest memory: the beautiful and colourful houses along the River Arno.

Santa Maria della Spina

Favorite thing: This little church is the only highlight of Pisa we found outside of the Campo dei Miracoli. The church holds a thorn of the crown of Jesus. Unfortunately we visited Pisa on a monday, the only day the church is closed....
On other days you can visit the church between 10 :00 and 14:00.

houses along the Arno, Pisa, Italy

Favorite thing: The main river through Pisa is the Arno. Walking from the trainstation to the campo dei miracoli it was the first interesting thing we saw. The houses along the Arno are coloured in Tuscany style, which gave it that special atmosphere.

Favorite thing: try original Italian pisa! :) It's delicious! And Italians are such a nice people, and very big talkers :) They are funny over there. Just how they talk to you, they don't care that you don't understand their language, your problem! But it's not because they are trying to be mean, it's just the way they are :)

Fondest memory: Pisa, like Florence, is located along the Arno river. It has a few less bridges than Florence, but the ones that are there are nice to look at anyway. Take a walk along the embankment and into the city center.

Favorite thing: Pisa is on the banks of the river Arno, most of the city including the train station is on the south side, but if you want to go to the tower you'll have to use one of the bridges and cross over.
