The Baptistery, Pisa

Favorite thing: Also at the Campo dei Miracoli at the other side of the Duomo you will find the Bapstistry (1152-1284).
The Baptistry has a circular shape, a circumference of 107 metres and a total height of 55 metres, excluding the statue on top.

Fondest memory: The Baptistery: A circular marble building originally begun in Romanesque style in mid-12th century but some later work being Gothic.

The pulpit dates from 1260 & carvings depicting life of Christ can be seen here.

Favorite thing: View from a window in the batistery.
I guess everyone been in Pisa has this photo, there is a nice queu infact in front of this window.
I guess this happened because it was the only photo you could take from a high position, but now that the tower opened again, it will not be necessary anymore.

Favorite thing: See the Baptistry. It was built from 1152 to 1284. During this era, custom stated that a child could not enter a church until they were baptized. Therefore. many cathedrals of this time would have a separate baptistry constructed.

Favorite thing: I love to get shots from a different angle and this view taken from the city walls was certainly a different perspective! Take time to enjoy a walk on the walls you won't regret it.

Fondest memory: The sound of singing in the baptistry resounding all around. I was moved to tears

Favorite thing: This is the Baptistry in Pisa...it's located right near the Leaning Tower in the grassed area... Although this building is not photographed as much as the Leaning Tower I think it is a great looking building...

Favorite thing: The Baptistry is another ancient building in the square. It was started by Diotisalvi in 1153 but the work was completed only in the 14th century with a major remodelling by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano in between.

This cylindrical baptistry is 116 feet in diameter and about 180 feet high. The lower register of blind arcades repeats the pattern of the cathedral and campanile. Designed later, however, this shows the change from Romanesque to Gothic style architecture, the second and fourth tiers have pointed, not round arches.

Favorite thing: The Campo dei Miracoli is made up of several impressive structures, the most well known of course is the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but also present is the Duomo (cathedral) and the Babtistery. Of the three, I liked the Babtistery the most, a huge white "dimple" like structure in the middle of a green grass field with some beautiful detailing.
I managed to gather our group for a "look Ma, I'm in Pisa" photo, so you have Zohara,Nissiem,Ziv,Tal and Itzik looking good for my camera.
The second photo shows the lintel above the entrance door and the third shows some details of that lintel where each and every face or figure is different.
The last photo shows one of, or rather the ONLY, tourist who walked off the paths around the green grass areas...

Favorite thing: The Pisa's baptistry was built in 1152-1284 and it is very famous for Nicola Pisano's great marble pulpit, cempleted in 1260. It is carved with lively scenes from the Life of Christ.
