La Centrale: Music all night long
LINDALOUIELOU profile photo

La Centrale is the only club in Pisa that starts with live music from 11pm and ends late in the morning. There are djs playing differen kind of music. From rock'n'roll to electro.
It seems a '60s club, an hawaiian tiki bar (they serve the best tropical drinks you can find around) but there is also a large dancefloor and the sound is very good!

Borderline Club: On the Borderline

Borderline club is, most likely, the only rock bar in town. I was lucky enough to meet some locals who went to the bar on a regular basis and invited me to come along with them, because I don't think I would have found it if it wasn't for them. I went to borderline twice and had fun both times. Though the locals generally mind there own bussiness, and you shouldn't go there if you want to start conversation, it is a great place to dance, drink and generally enjoy yourself. When I went there, there were live bands playing. One was great, one was... Well, not so great. But the atmosphere was good and people were enjoying themselves. There's a few tables to sit at, and a long bar with many chairs. The bartenders are friendly enough, though not up for chitchat. They're just doing their jobs. Generally a nice, if not a bit rough around the edges, place to go have a drink if you're a fan of rock music. There was no entry fee the times that I went.

Dress Code: No dress code, just don't look like a bum.

Orzo Bruno: Good bar to visit

Probably the best bar and beer we have found on our travels to Italy over the years. Tucked away in a side street yet very busy on both our visits this is the tap for the Birrificio Artigiano, a brewery a few kilometers outside Pisa.
6 beers on tap up to 8% by volume. Tried most and by far my favourite was the Rosso, red by colour, malty and very tasty - good beer, Mrs Bonio quite happy with a pils.
Very friendly and helpful staff along with a comfortable placeto drink good beers, wish this was my local!

The Arno at night: On the river banks

The Arno at night
1 more image

By day the river Arno seems to flow almost unnoticed or at least unregarded through the city. Traffic rushes along its banks but the water itself is surprisingly free of river boats such as you see in many other cities, and although tourists pause to admire the scene, the busy streets don’t encourage them to linger for long. At night though the scene is transformed, and these same banks become the meeting place of choice for many of the city’s young people. In the cooling air they gather on the river walls to chat, to drink, to see and be seen. The mood is vibrant but not in the least threatening, and the backdrop of Pisa’s lovely old houses and palazzos, and the lights reflected in the water, make for a charming scene. Take a stroll here or on one of the bridges to soak up the atmosphere and capture the views on camera – the walls will act as a makeshift tripod if like us you have no other with you. My main picture was taken on the Ponte di Mezzo, just by the Piazza Garibaldi – the third building from the right is our hotel, the Royal Victoria.

Around Borgon Stretto and Via Carducci: Pisan pub and cafe culture

I prefer the quiet bars around Borgo Stretto

Pisa swarms with university students, and this means lots of pubs and cafes, lively ones during week nights. The best place to hang out would be in the drinking holes around Borgo Stretto and Vai Carducci Oberdan as well as in Piazza delle Vettovaglie (off Borgo Stretto) and around Ponte di Mezzo fronting the Arno river. The choices span the entire spectrum, from quiet cafes and enoteca to noisy clubs (especially the ones near Ponte di Mezzo). I think I've outgrown loud clubs, so I settled for the more sedate enoteca on Piazza delle Vettovaglie for a nightcap.

Palazzo Borgo

Somehow this great building was one of my favorite sights in Pisa, outside of Piazza dei Miracoli of course.
This great architecture reminds me a lot of the lovely buildings in Venice. And once again it is a bank who owns this building today, but in this case we could see at least, where our money is going to.

Dress Code: Pisa is accustomed to tourists and except a very few places, nobody cares a lot for a "dresscode"

PISA - a safe place at night

Borgo Stretto

Pisa is really a safe place and a great town to take a walk at night.
almost NO drunken people, no harrassment, no pickpokets....
...at least not more than in any other place in Europe.
Of course it is the best to be careful, but in Pisa you may enjoy a quiet evening, take a glass of italian wine and have dinner in one of the many smaller restaurants, as soon as the thousands of daytourists have disappeared and Pisa belongs to the local people again.

Dress Code: None of the bars and restaurants require a special dress code

a martini is dinner......right??!!

On one of my visits to Pisa, we went to a fabulous bar which was just across the road from the River, down the road from Piazza Girabaldi.

The cocktails were great, but the best part was the copious amount of free bar snacks on offer!!

Who needs dinner!!!! *hic*

Dress Code: Mainly students, so nothing flash required.

Close to Ponte di mezzo

Ponte di mezzo is then most important bridge in Pisa. It offers a good place to stay, waiting for the firework on june the 16 th. It is always crowed of tourists and citizens becuase it represents the main way to join Piazza dei Miracoli and the University area.
