by hquittner Updated Nov 17, 2013

The Pinacoteca Civica contains exclusively 13 to 15C works. A place of importance is given to the Crucifix of Coppo di Marcovaldo of aboue 1260, Nearby are the panels whose center one is Saint Gimignano with the town in his hands done by Taddeo di Bartolo (1401). On the upper floor is a an early series of pictures about a wedding from the 13C.

The Museo Civico was settled in 1852 in the upper floors of the Palazzo del Popolo. The entrance is the courtyard of the Palace (which was under restoration in June 2006) built in 1323. In the courtyard you can see nice paintings like San ivo che Rende Giustizia made by Sodoma.
In the museum of can see wonderful works and paintings of the 13th and 14th century.

Most of the works in the rooms of the Civic Museum come from churches, conventc, and private collections, bear witness to an intense cultural life of San Gimignano, showing Sienese and Fiorentine influence on it. The works of many great artists of the age can be seen in the museum, like: Pier Francesco Fiorentino, Sebastiano Mainardi, Filippo Lippi, Federico and Lippo Memmi, Simone Martini, and many others.
