Many great Palazzi and restaurants are built on Piazza del Campo, and so it is certainly a great place to relax in the evening, after a hot day.
I was there in march and only a few garden-restaurants were still open at night.
Don't forget to take a look at the lovely "Fonte Gaia" as well, it is just opposite of Palazzo Pubblico. (click on my pic : Fonte Gaia is the blue square on the right !)
Dress Code: None of the restaurants on Piazza del Campo cares for any special dresscode !

Palazzo Pubblico ,with the famous Campanile built on the largest square of Siena, the " Piazza del Campo "
Palazzo Pubblico is certainly the most famous building in Siena and is lighted very well untill around midnight.

Check out the opening-times of the museum and the campanile, as tickets for the Campanile are given out for a certain time only and access is allowed for a short period only.

On the right of my picture you may see the dome of the Battistero.
DO NOT expect to be able to enter it the next day through the Duomo...
....you have to step down quite far and will finally get to the entrance of the battistero from a deeper level.
All of these pics of "Siena by night " are ment to encourage people to make a quick stop-over at night, in case that they are in Tuscany, and wonder, if it is worth to walk through town at night or not...
Dress Code: The duomo seen from that side, that was originally ment to build another wing of the cathedral, but it was never finished.

The Duomo - right in the centre of town, with its great fassade.
Of course you may not enter the church at night, but you may walk around it, have a look for its opening-times and maybe take a first picture WITHOUT all of the hundreds of people , who are normally on the square.
Don't forget to look for the Battistero as well - although the lights are much darker there.

The streets of Siena were almost empty at 09.00 p.m.
Cars are not allowed to most of the streets in the old town, a fact that adds a lot of atmosphere to a walk in Siena at night.

It is always again a great adventure to explore medieval streets, lighted
only by a few lights...
It looks so much like in the old times, sometimes a bit spooky maybe, but I always enjoy it that way.
Taking pics is easy, especially, when you have a digital camera and are able to place the camera somewhere on a wall and click smoothly.
Dress Code: NO dresscode required, even at most of the bars beeing still open.

I normally try to arrive at night in a big town like Siena.
The main trafic is gone then, and a place to park my motorhome may be found easily and without any stress.
You just have to check out carfully all the signs, as some of these places will be cleaned early in the morning once a week, and all of the parking has to be empty by 05.00 a.m.

In Siena I found a parking close to " Fortezza di S. Barbara " and had a first great view on the Duomo, oficially called " Duomo Santa Maria Assunta "

What is better that to drink something sitting on the floor, while you are talking with your friends, watching people go by, surrounded by a magnificent circle of medieval palaces?
Dress Code: Whatever!!! But, girls, be careful if you are wearing a skirt!

Address: Piazza del Campo
It's a little on the difficult side to find, but if you can get in and find a seat on one of the couches inside, it's well worth spending the night there with some friends. It fills up pretty quick, so get there early. It's almost got an artsy, new york city village feel to it - the lights are a little brighter inside than most bars, and there are paintings and displays all over the walls.

While it's a little chilly in the colder months and has a musty smell to it, this bar is by far and large, the most unique in Siena. It's got a lot of little grottoes and keeps going down and down - just when you think you've found the end, look again, you probably haven't! They've got tons of german beer and they even serve it in the liter glasses like you'd find in germany. Waiters are quick, and you can find live music there some nights.
