Siena - Piazza del Campo & Fonte Gaia

From the campanile you have the best view down to Piazza del Campo, that is devided into 9 parts by stripes in the pavement, as 9 districts of Siena built their council here in Palazzo Publico

Siena - the bells of the campanile

After the ticket-control there are lots of steps beeing really just 45 cm wide , and people coming down , while you walk up...

THIS is the reason, why you are not allowed to take any bags or other lugguage with you

The Campanile - be in time

Siena - view from inside the Campanile

Be in time back at the campanile, as the time indicated on your ticket is ment for the moment your ticket is controlled by the person sitting on the 3rd floor of the tower.

The first steps are easy to climb and rather wide, so it is no problem to meet the people coming back from the tower

Siena - the Campanile

Only 900 persons a day are allowed to climb up the narrow stairs to the top of the Campanile.

Buy your ticket inside the court on the back in the counter and REGISTER for a certain time to climb up the tower.

Siena

Have a look for the panorama and you will see that Siena was built on several hills.

Siena - the Duomo seen from the Campanile

The Campanile is certainly the best place for a great view on the Duomo

and just imagine how big it would have been, if they would also have finished the other side-wing
