For those shopaholics out there Siena has plenty of shops to keep you amused. If you are after clothing, check out the fancy boutiques on Bianchi di Sopra and on Via di Citta. There are tempting food shops at every turn, filled with colourful pasta, biscuits & other sweet treats, cheeses and cured meats. On top of this they all sell a large selection of Tuscan wines....I could browse for hours! One particularly interesting shop is Antica Drogheria Manganelli (at Via di Citta 71-73). They have been making their tasty panforte since 1879.
For market fans, if you happen by on a Wednesday you can check out the big, lively market held in front of the Fortezza. The market sells everything from clothing to food to junk - a great place for a browse or to stock up on fresh produce if you are self catering. There is also an antique market which is held in Piazza del Mercato on the 3rd Sunday of every month. Leave a Comment

Getting ready to shop in Siena by karenincalifornia When I think of shopping in Italy, I think of Rome, Florence and Milan. Siena is not to be overlooked, because it has its share of designer shops, too. After crossing over the Piazza G. Matteotti (shown in this picture), you can make your way down Via Bianchi di Sopra where you'll find the shops of Prada, Gucci, Armani, Ferragamo, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Damiani, Cartier, Versace, and Hermes, to name a few. Me? I bought 2 CDs and a camera flash card. And they weren't even Louis Vuitton. Leave a Comment Theme: Women's Clothes

A pattern--not Sienese by giampiero6 Siena like many tuscan and umbrian towns featured colorful maiolica and terracotta. While most people opt for the colorful plates, trays, mugs and dishes, some of the most interesting pieces are the blue and white 'farmacia' medicinal ceramics. These elegant jars were used to stored herbal medicinals in medieval apothecaries.
Siena in general is an expensive town because of the the high tourist traffic, but you can get a mug or plate fairly inexensively. I like the ones with the emblems of the 'contrade'--neighborhood organziations that have been competing in the wild and wooly Palio horse race in Siena forever. When I lived there, I was in the contrada del Bruco or earthworm...not a very inspiring mascot! :-) Theme: Local Craft

I don't remember the name of this store but it was on the main street to the Campo. I'll look it up I promise. But they sold all types of beautiful scarves. And they were less expensive than the other shops near the Campo. I bought a cashmere scarf for 13 euros. Sigh. I should have bought more. A guest at our hotel in Florence was the one to suggest we look for this store. She didn't know the name of it but was able to describe where it was located. Leave a Comment Theme: Women's Clothes

by m-joy In the steep narrow streets of Siena you find a multitude of little shops with various offer, for example delicacies, gifts, shoes, decorations, household, spices, etc. The streets around the Campo and on the way up to the Domo are always overcrowded with tourists, but the offer is brilliant.

I thought getting out of Florence means less shopping and for me to just enjoy the sights. Not! The narrow, old streets were a joy to walk around in and every shop had something intresting and new to offer...bags, shoes, wine, souvenirs...just a lovely collection of stuff! The shipping guarantee espoused by Antica Siena and the Bacchus wine shop means nothing to them. We purchased 350 euro of wine from them in June 2007. The shipment was labelled as gifts rather than as wine and therefore seized by Canada Customs. Canada Customs sent the seizure documents to Antica Siena. We contacted them and were promised a refund if we sent them our banking information which we did. In the past year and a half we have contacted them about this refund numerous times. We've had many promises - "we'll send it next week, my mother has been sick". Our refund has never arrived. Now, the refuse to answer our emails. Don't think that their disregard of their shipping guarantee only applies to wine. If they won't guarantee a shipment of wine, they won't guarantee a shipment of pottery either.
Beware of shopping at Antica Siena or Bacchus Wine shop. They do not honor their shipping guarantee. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherPhone: 604 980 8606

Any sweets shop in Siena as well as most kiosks.
Do buy panforte in Siena from which it traditionally comes. There is a great variety of flavours and types so do buy a variety.
Panforte is quite expensive. Expect prices of 20-30 Euros per kilo. If you buy pre-packaged, then it will be more expensive but it is certainly possible to buy a wedge off the round. Leave a Comment Theme: Food and DrinkAddress: Siena, Italy
