This is not really a warning as such, but I did not know where else to place it.In Florence, there is a metal (bronze) statue of a wild boar, and local tales say that if you rub the nose of the boar, you will have good luck. If you look closely, you will see that the boar's nose has been rubbed so often, its finish is light and shines more than the rest of the statue. This statue is located in Piazza Della Signoria near the Mercato Nuovo (Straw Market) which is also known as Mercato del Porcellino or Mercato del Cinghiale because of the wild boar! This bronze statue was cast in the 17th Century by Pietro Tacca as a copy of an antique original that is now in the Uffizi Museum. While standing there waiting to rub the boar's nose, a father was trying to have his little boy rub its nose. The child was so afraid of the statue, he started to cry. No way was he going to touch that ugly boar....
Watch out for the smell!
by sim1
In my must see tips I told you about Saturnia and the natural hot springs. It was wonderful to have this free spa treatment here, but there is one big disadvantage that I want to warn you about. The wonderful warm water is sulphorous, which makes these baths so special. But as you might now, sulphor has this distinct smell of rotten eggs. And when you have bathed in this water, that's what you will smell like. Eeks! I've showered I think a dozen times that day after my bath, trying to get that odeur of me, but invane. The smell just gets into your skin and seems impossible to remove. So remember: you might feel nice and renewed after these baths, but at the same time you might have the problem that your parfum is not strong enough to cover up the bad odeur of the sulphor ;-)
PISA - calculate your time !
by globetrott
When arriving in Pisa it is the best to rush to Piazza dei Miracoli and go to the central ticket-office there behind the leaning tower. There you may get combination-tickets for 3 , 4 or 5 of the attractions.AND the tickets for the leaning tower. These tickets are sold out quickly, as every 30 minutes only a certain amount of people is allowed to the tower. A guide will take them up and down again. If you arrive in the afternoon, it might be too late to get tickets at all.Be IN TIME at the tower, 1 minute too late, and the door will be locked for you !! - and you also lost the 15 Euros of your ticket.

Climbing up the campanile of Palazzo Publico is certainly one of the highlights in Siena.Only 900 persons a day are allowed to climb up the narrow stairs to the top of the Campanile. Buy your ticket inside the court on the back in the court and REGISTER AS SOON AS possible in the morning for a certain time to climb up the tower.500 steps are to be climbed up in order to have the great view of Siena.Your time on the Campanile is restricted to 30 minutes !

Be very careful ... or you will fall deeply and permanently in love with Italy ... and long for it on summer days when you climb to the tar beach of your rooftop on the upper west side of Manhattan ... or wherever you may be in summer or winter or anytime when you aren’t there, sipping the best coffee in the world, enjoying its most savory landscapes ... and discovering quite memorable places for afternoons you never forget.
PISA - a rather narrow door in the tower
by globetrott
Climbing up the leaning tower in Pisa is no problem and most of the steps are rather wide until you get to the 1st platform. Then you have to enter trough a rather narrow door, beeing just maybe 45 cm wide. This might be one of the reasons, why you are NOT allowed with your back-packs or bigger luggage to climb up the tower.

It's a great walk from the Castello back to the village of Bagnone, but we did see the odd snake basking in the sunshine on the path, it saw us coming though and moved out the way, think it was a Tuscan Viper although I didnt chase it for a closer look to make sure.

...and then I made a test directely at the tower, and put my luggage in front of the church and left, watching it from far away. - And nothing happened - No-one was interested in the suitcase, that might have a BOMB INSIDE ...I simply think, if terrorists would like to attack PISA - they attack the tower and church - but NEVER the lousy trainstation...
