That's the most important monument in the town. The church, with ancient roman origins, has some relevant paintings and frescoes; it boasts an inner museum of holy art. The bell tower has ancient origins but it has been restored during the last centuries.

    Courmayeur Transportation

Closest airports: the closest airports are Milan and Geneva. For us - given we were able to fly out of London City Airport - Geneva was more convenient, even though you do have to cross two more borders on the way. From the airport: we rented a car at the Geneva airport and drove to Courmayeur, via Chamonix and the Mont Blanc Tunnel. There were no...

Chiecco is the easiest blue run accessible from Plan de Checrouit in Courmayeur and this is where I was taken by the instructor after a 15-minute stint in the beginners' area. To reach the Chiecco drag lift from the Plan de Checrouit area, ski down a small slope between the 'Baita' restaurant and a ski rental store. The slope is signposted...

Vittorio Emanuele II refuge; old shelter top right 2 more images

    by papito1981 Written Sep 18, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

From Pont, Valsavarenche, Vittorio Emanuele II refuge can be easily reached in a couple of hours also from "inexpert climbers". At 2.735 mt you will find two shelters, the old, present since 1884 and the new, opened in 1961, represent the ideally location for ascents, both spring and summer towards the chain of Gran Paradiso.

It's possible to sleep there (more than 150 people during summer).

    Open from 23/03/2011 to 08/05/2011

The wonderful cheeses of the Piedmont region are worth trying!Racclet (spelling?) is a fantastic way of enjoying the traditional 'fondue' style. A large block of cheese (literally half a wheel for 5 of us) is placed on a rack on the centre of your table and a heating element put across it (end on) - this then causes the cheese to slowly melt and...
