Castelli del Veneto - Roncade

by croisbeauty

Castello Roncade is situated 12km from Treviso and is the most characteristic example or rural culture in Veneto. It was built around 10th century and the locals always called it simply Castello. The present look of the castle, however, dates from the 16th century and was built by a Venetian patrician Girolamo Giustinian. The present owner of the Castello is baron Vincenzo Ciani Basetti, who comes from a family of ancient agricultural tradition in the province of Trento. The family tradition of Basetti is the production of quality wines. Those who are wine lovers probably know well "Villa Giustinian", "Merlot Piave", "Pinot Grigio Piave", "Patriarca" or "Prosecco del Veneto".

Castelli del Veneto - Montecchio Maggiore

by croisbeauty

Montecchio Maggiore is small town situated in between Verona and Vicenza. If travelling by car you will noticed alot of malls and shops along the road and a few pretty good restaurants, but nothing will attract you to stop in this place, not even the small historic centre of the place seen on the left side.Montecchio Maggiore is the most famous for the two castles, situated on the hilltops above the town. Borth castles has been built around 975 and are claimed to be the inspiration for the Romeo and Juliet legend. One is called Castello Bellaguardia and belonged to Juliet's family while the other is called Castello della Villa and was Romeo's.During my visit both castles were closed for the public visitors but to be honest, there isn't much to see.

Buy your stamps at the big T

by globetrott

the "T" stands for Sale/Tabacchi Some things in Italy are different from other countries in Europe and so you will find a special kind of shop all over Italy, selling Tabacco and also stamps. Do not expect to get stamps at the places, where you buy your postcards !!In Verona you even have such a "Sale/Tabacchi" directely on Piazza Bra, next to the BRIX restaurant and it's sign has a very important addition :"24 ore" means it is Open 24 hours a day !!

Gabinetti Pubblici - the place to powder your nose

by globetrott

Gabinetti Pubblici??Whats that expression you might ask yourself while looking for a public toilet...Well, Gabinetti Pubblici is what you are looking for and it is the elegant expression for the place to powder your nose or talk to a man about a horse, and on Piazza Bra in Verona the sign for this place is even made in a very special way as you can see it on my picture and it is also lighted at night.I can imagine that people, who have never heared of that expression would be searching for another sign, so be prepared !!

post your love letter next to Juliets balcony

by globetrott

Casa di Giulietta / the house of Juliet In the entrance of the building, where you can see the famous (BUT false) balcony , where Giulietta Capelletti met Romeo Montecchi, you may stick your Love-letters on a wall , where you will find already thousands of other love-letters.To post your love-letters there is to be said to be some sort of a guarantee for a love lasting forever.During the day thousands , mainly male tourists are trying to touch the right breast of the statue of Giuletta, and get a photo as well while doing so.(you will see the statue in my 2nd photo right under the balcony)Look at this statue, that is completely cleaned by all of these touches, while the face is almost black. It is ment for good luck and ever-lasting love...There is NO guarantee, but maybe it will work, so why not trying yourself.During the day you may hardly ever find a quiet moment inside that lovely...
