Whilst walking around Padua you'll surely come across Italy's second oldest University, Palazzo del Bo. What you might miss, if you don't take a guided tour, is the chance to see the 16th century wooden anatomy theatre in the old medical faculty. It was built in 1594 and is quite impressive. I was told that it is the oldest surviving medical lecture theatre in the world. You can also see the pulpit from which Galileo taught physics.

Montagnana is a wonderfully scenic village located about 50 km Southwest of Padova (take the local road, not the motorway). Captured inside the walls it looks like a huge fortress. Photo courtesy of official page.

Villa Barbarigo - 30 minutes drive, south of Padova, among the Eugean Hills, and just north of Acqua Petrarca, there is a small village called Valsanzibio, where you can find an old villa, which has its beautiful gardens open to the public.... these include a labyrinth, an aviary, and many fountains. It costs 12,500 ITL, and you can walk round it in about 45 minutes

These are more sites on the tour around the forty acre garden. It is all fabulous and worth a long stay to enjoy the 60 statues and 60 other sculptures on the grounds.
