This shop located in the big building off Piazza delle Erbe is the one I trust for fresh fish and this is where I buy my tuna for making sushi.
It is a small shop, but has a following of older customers who trust them. Small, but they have 4 people working there at one time. This is how popular they are.
What to buy: Shell fish called St. Johns, Tuna and Swordfish.
What to pay: Competitive Prices

How can they get any more salamis into that shop?
I ask myself that question every time I go here to pick up some salamis and cuts of meat.
This owner is well respected in Padova and he will find what you are looking for, by region or type of meat.
Come prepared to buy and taste beforehand.
What to buy: I always buy a salamis that has a chili flavored taste from Sicily. I also get one that is less fatty...meno grassi.
What to pay: Average Prices Prevail Here

The people of Veneto do eat horse meat. In the shops you will not see as many types of cuts, but you will see a more lean meat than that of cow or pig.
And ... there is a different smell, too.
What to buy: This shop is two shops down from my favorite cheese shop.
I do not appreciate horse meat, so I do not buy from this shop.
What to pay: Average prices are less than cow meat.

Located in the center of Padova is the market building with numerous shops selling all types of Italian specialties.
This shop has become my choice for quality and the two gentlemen make a special effort to shrink wrap my cheese that I bring to my family in the states. This shop is always loaded with customers while other shops that sell cheese have no one.
I even painted a watercolor of one of them. see below.
What to buy: They have a selection of cheeses, and will let you sample any suggestions for what you might be looking for. They also have olives, yogurt (Greek Style), and other soft cheeses.
What to pay: Prices are equal to other sellers.

In the middle of the city is a huge square, and at one end one can find a market for vegetables, and one fish dealer. This is held Monday through Saturday mornings.
Photos below.....
What to buy: The vegetables all mostly come from a center for distribution on the edge of Padova. So they are equal in ripeness, etc.
What to pay: They do not bargain here.

Under Palazzo della Ragione there are a gallery where you can find a meat, cheese and fish market. This is THE PLACE for this kind of shopping in Padova. You can easily find items that are almost impossible to get everywhere else in town. Some of the shops now belong to a supermarket chain (shame!!!) but the smaller one are still family run and you can easily recognize them.
Some meat shop sell horse(cavallo) and donkey(musso) meat that is typical of Padova.

This Aladdin's cave of a shop has hundreds of bright things to entice you to buy - everything being - 99 cents!
Some things are just fun items, some are quite practical.
I enjoyed rummaging around, and could have purchased lots of things. However, the thought of having to carry everything around with me in my already heavy suitcase soon made me rethink.
I managed to limit myself to a set of plastic cutlery (knife, fork and 2 spoons in an attractive petrol blue colour - I'd left my metal set at home thinking I wouldn't need them, but I'd decided to buy some picnic provisions from the market- they've been very useful on numerous trips now), a nail varnish in a pearly white - in anticipation of getting a decent tan :-) and a pack of 4 batteries for my Mp3 player - which came to the grand total of 2.97 euros!! Bargain!
This shop stocks a variety of stationery, kitchenware, toiletries and cosmetics, scented candles, and lots of other useful/gift ideas for all ages
I also enjoyed looking around the shop opposite which had more expensive but quirky goods for the home or presents.
What to buy: Those 'just in case items' - plasters, sellotape, batteries, sewing kits, toiletries etc
'Fun' make up eg nail polish, eye shadow in colours that you wouldn't want to spend a fortune on normally.
Glittery stationery and pens
Things to keep children occupied - crayons, note pads, puzzles, toys and games etc.
What to pay: Would You believe 99 cents!!!
