Palazzo del Capitanio Arch & Torre dell'Orologio
This building (built between 1599 and 1605) has great historical value and bears the signs of several refurbishments, such as that undertaken in the 17th century façade which incorporates Falconetto's Arch of Triumph (1532), commonly known as 'Arch of the Clock', which in turn includes an even more ancient tower. The imposing structure was fitted with Italy's first clock around 1344, but the complicated mechanism was only finished in 1437. The face shows hours, days, months, the movements of the stars, the phases of the moon and the Zodiac.
Palazzo del Capitano
On the Piazza dei Signori, adjacent to the 15th century Grand Loggia, stands the Palazzo del Capitano. This was home to the city's Venetian rulers. It has a 16th century clock tower, and an intricately designed 14th century astronomical clock.
