If you are on the east coast, the one belonging the Verona province, you will see the sun set behind the mountains of the Brescia side. The pictures are all taken from Pai, between Torri and Castelletto di Brenzone. The sunsets all from the same spot.
Like everywhere, sometimes the sunset in breathtaking!
Not everywhere in the lake there are beaches and very few are sandy ( and none of the sandy ones is natural).
The typical look of a beach of the norther side of the like is the one you can see in te picture: a little stripe of pebbles. The more the beach is exposed to the wave of the strong north-easterly winds, the more rounded the pebbles are.
Despite the little extensions, those beaches won't be crowded, however (except maybe on sundays) because the space between the lake and the mountanis does not allow too many hotels, camping, etc. from Garda and up north.
Fondest memory: Reading your favorite book of the moment, sitting on the beach and facing the sunset, while everybody (at least the tourists *wink*) are already having dinner....
the Lake of Garda is usually subject to thermal winds. Starting during the night and up till 11 am the "Peler" blows down from the mountains to the plains: it is fresh and clear, and usually stronger in the middle of the lake, and weaker near the shore.
The visibility is high, and the view is clear.
Afters 30/50 minutes of pause, the winds reverts and the "ora" blows from the plans to the Alps: it's warmer, and brings haze...
So, best landscapes in the morning!
(the picture is taken from the border of the territory of Torri del benaco and Brenzone, and looks up in the directions of Limone and Riva del Garda).
Of course, a thunderstorm or any weather perturbation may change the winds and the wind "timetable"
As in many other towns and villages on Lago di Garda, there is inevitable Castello Scaligero in Torri del Benaco too. Almost the same type of the castles can be found all over the Veneto Region with its very characteristic Ghibellini style ramparts.
In the medieval times, 12th and 13th centuries, Guelfi and Ghibellini were severely rivals supporting the Pope or Emperor. The rivality between this two srteams started in Germany and later on was imported in Italy.
This ancient rivality can be noticed even today in between the Italian towns, for instance, Siena supported the emperor while Firenze the Pope. Antagonism in between this two cities exist even today.
