    The Torri del Benaco harbour

by effeti Updated Oct 3, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fishing boats moored in the Torri del Benaco harbour.. In fact, the little harbour is the main square of the town... Bars have tables all around it.. And you can have an aperitivo with the mast of a sailboat in front of you.. It may cost a a little more than in another place, but it's well worth it if you want to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere.
Be careful. Weekly market on Mondays morning: beautiful, but the square will be overcrowded.

The place is a must see

Harbour, hotel, bars.... Fishing boats Sailboats, too a night view from the square the oldest house facing the harbour

    Visit Castelletto di Brenzone

by effeti Updated Apr 4, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Castelletto, arriving from south along the east shore of the lake (the Verona's side) is the first village of the municipality of Brenzone, following the municipality of Torri del Benaco and the Village of Pai.
Nice, little and charming village, with bus and boats stop, a few shops (grocery, greeen grocery, international newspapers, sportsware, etc.), bars and restaurants. All around the tiny harbour you can see in the pictures.
There is a very active sailing club a few meters away, along the main (and trafficked) road.
A particularity you usually don't notice at first sight... The little village is the homebase of a worldwide spread missionary order of catholic nuns ( Piccole suore della sacra famiglia).

The harbour Lungolago The main road A narrow side alley going up the hill Fishermen's boats in a corner of the harbour

    Torri del Benaco center

by effeti Updated Oct 2, 2009

The main picture shows another point of view of the Torri very center. In fact there is a Square around the little venetian harbour, and a few meters away from the La Scala family castle (in the opposite direction to the main picture).
Olive trees are the the framework of the square.
Perfectly positioned to sip your aperitivo at sunset

Take a look at the Castle of Torri del Benaco

by effeti Written Sep 26, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fortified place since the roman age ( "Castrum turrium" means something like "Fort of the towers" in latin), the actual fortifications on the little rock dominating the harbour stated under the longobards and ended under the domination of the "La Scala" family... the Lord of the medieval Verona.
The same as all of the castles from Sirmione, Lazise, and Malcesine.
    Take a look at it!
The castles is now a museum. In the yard, there are the remains of an ancient "limonaia", or the place where lemon trees where sheltered during the cold months.

The Castle as seen from across the harbour The Castle as seen from the main parking The castle from the Sailing club The lemon trees... House in a corner of the Castle area

    Chapel

by croisbeauty Updated May 31, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Small but very beautiful chapel is situated on the main square of Torri del Benaco, right next to the hotel Gardesana. Behind the chapel, at the same level as its rooftop, you can see the remnants of the town walls interpolated into the neigbouring house. The ramparts of the town walls are of Ghibellini style, the same as the Castello Scaligero.

    Castello Scaligero

by croisbeauty Updated May 30, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Castello Scaligero is the most attractive sight of Torri del Benaco. As the all other Scaliger castles in the area of Verona, it was built in the medieval times during the rule of the mighty Scala Family.
Nowadays it houses an interesting museum of the local traditions, in particular fishing and olive cultivation.

    Lakeshore

by croisbeauty Updated May 31, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The lakeshore along Torri del Benaco is rock-bound, what makes it more attractive then those in the southen part of the lake. It is a part of long promenade and bike-route which connets most of the settlements in the northern Garda.
There is a cute cafe-bar on this side with very attractive wooden terrace which rises over the lake.

One exibition hall in the castle is dedicated to prehistoric pictoglyphs found inscribed on rocks in the area.
Torri del Benaco is the zone of Lago di Garda with more high concentrationof prehistoric pictoglyphs.

by effeti Written Sep 6, 2010

All around Torri del benaco (as for the most of the old villages around the lake) the ancient part of the village has unexpected hidden corners, views to the lake, arches... This is a typical romm built on a side street between two existeng houses, with an arch holding it.

And that windows directly looks at the lake...
