This is probably the most touristy of the touristy but I have to say it is really terrific. As dusk approaches in St Mark's Square, the orchestras set up outside their respective cafes and start to play. There will be a crowd of people standing and listening. It is really romantic even if you take the cheapo approach like we did and sit on the stairs NEXT to Caffe Florian. We checked the price list and it would cost 15 - 18E for two beers. We decided we did not want to spend the money to sit at a table, espcially since we had plenty of beer back at our apartment! It was still well worth the stroll over to the square.

Dress Code: To sit at the outside table, there was no dress code.

Since we first visited this fantastic location in the 1970's, we planned to sit and relax after a good meal and share bottle of Prossecco in St Mark's Square. OK - we paid abour 50 Euros but we were there for well over an hour listening to music from different groups of musicians from the rival cafes. It was a warm , still evening in July. Absolutely fantastic and a truly memorable experience.

just right sir

This is history and a really interesting but very expensive cafe.
The cafe had a complete restoration in the second half of the XIX century which is how it appears now, it opened on 29th Dec.1720.
It has been known as a meeting place for artists , poets, writers and politicians. Names like Bryon, Charles Dickens, Casanova, to mention just a few. We were lucky as someone on our trip knew of this cafe, so after a trip to Burano , we stopped in for a nightcap.
It wasnt cheap but the barman made all the drinks and exactly filled our glasses, there was no laughter from this man.
As it was dark inside the next couple of pictures will be postcards.
