Luggage and bags: It's best to take a backpack or a weekend bag. Because in Venice you might have to walk a while before getting to your hotel. Remember there are no such things as taxi's!! Or you could take the vaporetto or watertaxi, but then again there are a lot of steps in Venice, so I felt most comfortable with my backpack.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Take a sweater with you in spring or autumn. It can be chilly in the evening.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: In summer when it's warm there can be musquito's, so take some citronella or something with you.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: You'll need flat shoes for pounding the streets.
Wear light weight lose clothing in the summer when it does get very hot and humid.

Photo Equipment: Lots of reels of film ...think of a number and add two...you'll be sorry if you don't!

Luggage and bags: A nice suitcase or a good backpack. It doesn't really matter unless you want to look like the locals; chic.
Every thing fits in the traghetto, really.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Good shoes for walking - especially if you plan to get lost;)! During the summer some ligth clothing will do as Venice gets very hot and humid, and during the rest of the year warmer clothes. I haven't been there during winter but believe it can get rather cold and misty.
Nomatter what season you go there, make sure to bring some fashionable or stylish clothes for when you go out in the evening - it is Italy, after all;)

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Water is a must during summer - you can buy it every where in small, handy bottles.
You will find most things you need in the pharmacies etc., still I prefer to bring my own things and brands as they afterall are more familiar

Photo Equipment: A good camera and film than can make pictures without flash but still turn out good! There's a lot of places where you are not allowed to film nor photograph with flash, and believe me, you really, really want to!

Miscellaneous: Take a copy of J G Links' Venice for Pleasure. It is brilliant. To quote the blurb 'A guide book that has become a minor classic, remaining in print for over thirty years. Its simple object, in the author's own words, is to guide the reader to places he might otherwise miss and, having reached them, to tell him what he might wish to know and then leave him, preferably at a café, to admire, to enjoy, and perhaps be disappointed. The illustrations show the visitor, as he confronts a view, what his predecessors of a hundred, two hundred or five hundred years ago saw from the same point. The main part of the book describes four walks, each of which can be completed in one day, although there are points in each at which one can break off and return another day.'

The walks will take you all over Venice off the beaten track and will tell you all sorts of things you don't get from the standard guide books.

Luggage and bags: Pack light, as you have to go on foot or take a bus/taxi before arriving in the hotel and it isn't always possible for the bus/taxi to stop in front of the hotel.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Good walking shoes, you cannot do without them if you want to see a lot about Venice.

Photo Equipment: Take a lot of films with you, you will need them!

Luggage and bags: Don't take a bag which weighs too much! The streets and alleys can be very narrow or difficult to walk so take a good baggage with you. A little bag or sachet can be good for passport and money (which you can hide under your shirt) because then the thieves can't rob them.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Take good shoes with you because once again the streets of Venice can be difficult to walk and if you want to see a lot, you propably need to walk a lot too.
Then, take the clothes of the weather. If there is a flood time, prepare for it! And in the summer there can be really hot!

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Take some plaster/bandaid with you if you get hurt. Also suntan cream is good to be there in summer.

Photo Equipment: Well, I can't say anything else; just bring a camera with you, you will use it a lot! And a lot of film too!

Luggage and bags: If you are staying in Venice pack light because you are lugging that luggage with you everywhere and these are small island connected by bridge, after bridge, after bridge.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Tuck a pancho or good size umbrella into your bag because Venice is miserable in the rain.

Miscellaneous: People with Kiddos: Be prepared. You will be pushing a stroller then lifting it. Push. Lift. Push. Lift. These are islands with lots of bridges. Have another adult to help or you will be miserable.

If you are traveling by car: They are two parking lots. We have always parked at Tronchetto which is to your left immediately after you cross the large bridge from the mainland. It costs about 18 Euro for 24 hrs.

Luggage and bags: It is recommended that you take as little as possible on your person. Depending on time of year, it may be extremely hot and even during the winter (when we went), it was not so cool. If arriving by train, you may want to store your luggage at the train station. It is rather convenient if your not staying the night. All that is needed is a small backpack so that you may store your belongings.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: It is highly recommended that you wear comfortable walking shoes. The main path from the train station to San Marco is wonderful. There are many sites and structures to be adored, but the true character of Venezia can be seen around the corner. Being winter it was extremely erie in some areas as we were the only ones walking. You would here voices around but it was hard to tell exactly were they were coming from. Little bringes and the structures archaic expression created a romantic backdrop for many memories. The true character of Venezia must be experienced here.
