Antiche Cantine Ardenghi / ALL' PARADISO: Important - change of address!!!
I am visiting Venice this weekend and have already booked this restaurant as it sounds great. But having called the owner, I've just found out that it has now changed its name to "All' Paradiso" and is now located in the Rialto area. Phone number is the same, so call for directions. Price has also gone up to €60 / person but I'm sure it will be worth it!
Will let you know!

All' Paradiso (formerly Antiche Cantine Ardenghi): Great food ... and you become one of the family!
We all still fondly remember our night here ... it made our trip to Venice
Direct quote from Time Out:
You don't just come here to eat; you come for the experience. An anonymous doorway in a calle just west of Santi Giovanni e Paolo gives on to a long bar and rustic dining room, decorated with vintage photographs of Venice. Guests - who must book in advance - are plied with a succession of delicious, utterly authentic seafood dished, and as much (humble but drinkable) house wine as they can take, followed by biscuits, grappa and coffee all for a fixed price of L80,000. The soundtrack ranges from opera to Sinatra, and Michele, the garrulous owner, is liable to break into song at the slightest excuse.
Favorite Dish: Not sure of this spelling - schiaie. It was a tiny fish that I've never had before or since - special to Venice I think?
Antiche Cantine Ardenghi: Our best dining experience in all of Italy.
It is written in our travel book that Antiche Cantine Ardenghi is"a leap of local faith and an excellent splurge. Effervescent Michael and his wife, Lucia, proudly cook Venetian for a handful of people each night by reservation only. You must call first. You pay €50 per person and trust them to wine, dine, and serenade you with Venetian class. The evening can be quiet or raucous depending on who and how many are eating." It was relatively quiet when we were there. "While the menu is heavy on crustaceans, Michael promises to serve plenty of veggies and fruit as well." Then at the end you are invited to a shot of Grappa. Drink it if you dare. We did!!
See below for directions. There’s no sign, the door’s locked, and the place looks closed. But knock, say the password (La Repubblica Serenissima), and you’ll be admitted.
It was truely the best dining experience we had in all of Italy.
Favorite Dish: Everything was excellent.
