trattoria povoledo: floating pontoon
Kath and I have used the Povoledo as a beer stop during the day when we were waiting for vaporetti or just because we happened to be at that end of the Island. The restaurant is aimed directly at tourists and normally we would avoid such a place. Nevertheless, we gave it a try one night and were pleasantly surprised. There is a terrace right on the Grand Canal.
The night we were there, sitting right on the Canal edge, a water ambulance came by at high speed. As the wash came in, we realised we were actually on a floating pontoon.
Everything started to move. Great fun
Favorite Dish: Being a creature of habit. I went for the seafood and thoroughly enjoyed th pesce miste.
Service is pretty good and the menu is very comprehensive. There were a few venetians dotted about but the bulk of the crowd were tourists.
Nevertheless, not a bad bit of grub.
Trattoria Povoledo: Worth a miss
The guy on the door was very good explaining the menu in great detail. Initial impressions were very good as we were taken through the main restaurant and seated in a terraced area next the the canal. As this was our last night in Venice we were determined to have a great evening having enjoyed the splendour of the city. Having placed our order and started our drinks we awaited our first course in anticipation........alas, the lasagne chosen by my wife and daughter was served cold. We brought this to the attention of one of the waiters who promptly removed the dish and returned the same plated food a few minutes later, reheated. Once we finished the first course a decision was made not to continue eating in this restaurant worried about the quality of the remaining courses. I asked for the bill and then proceeded to discuss the fact that cold food was served. The Manager/Owner of the restaurant was very indignant and not at all apologetic, he said 'well you have eaten it and it was brought brought back hot'. Needless to say the conversation went downhill from there and resulted in us leaving the restaurant most upset with a feeling we had been totally ripped off by an establishment that doesn't care about it's customers.
Favorite Dish: none......the attitude of the management was extremely poor
