by Pierangelo Over 1000 various craft assembled in the Canale di S. Marco for the 23rd Voga Longa (The long row). The challenge is a non competitive row around the Venice Lagoon a distance of 32 Kilometers, around the Islands of Burano and Murano, before re-entering Venice down the Canale di Cannaregio and Grande Canale before finishing off at the Campo de Salute opposite the Dogges Palace.
All of the craft have to be capable of being propelled by paddle or oar, there is no restriction as to the type of craft so an incredible variety of boats took part, these ranged from a single Kayak to traditional Venician vessels rowed by 24 people. Leave a Comment Theme: Boating/Sailing

On May 26 and 27 a great event will take place in Venice: The Velalonga. All those who are interested in sailing or rowing can participate! The Circolo Velico Casanova (www.circolovelicocasanova.it; www.velalonga.com) will organize this event for the 6th year. After that day, a Sailing Raid has been organized! Sail on the lagoon on traditional lug sailboats for one week. Worth a try! Velalonga Raid

The Campanile by msbrandysue St. Mark's Campanile This is the proper name for the very tall bell tower you see first when approaching Venice. It is close to 100 meters tall. If you appreciate more active travel you can even take the stairs! This exhilerating adventure will give you the most amazing pictures of Venice to be had. HOURS: Closed Jan 7-31 Oct-Feb daily 9:30am-4pm Mar-June daily 9am-7pm July-Sept daily 9am-9pm ADMISSION: 6€
Wear good shoes to get you up there. I wouldn't recommend it if you are claustrophobic, of course. Make sure to bring your camera for your prize of the most amazing views of Venice. Theme: HikingAddress: St. Mark's SquarePhone: (+39)0415224064Directions: Vaporetto 1 Station: San Marco

On Grand Canal by San Toma by Rhondaj In the Venice travel forum someone had asked if kayaking was allowed in Venice. So I was on the lookout when we traveled to there. Listen to this! We had just arrived to our apartment, I stepped out onto the balcony to see the view, looked down into our small canal, and there gliding beneath me was a kayak! A tandem (2 person). Then, later in the week, I saw a whole bunch of them kayaking around the Arsenale area. And then this picture of a guy kayaking on the grand canal. I didn't see oodles of kayakers, but they were definitely out and about. Leave a Comment Theme: Kayaking/Canoeing
