    Oibo': "Wow"!

    by kcochran111 Updated Jun 10, 2003

    Ale & Bruno

My favorite restaurant in Vicenza is run by Ale & Bruno, two crazy friends who have struck gold with their local cuisine. This place is always packed, so call a couple days in advance for reservations!

FYI: Neither these two characters, nor the rest of the staff, speak English and the daily menus are mostly in dialect.

Favorite Dish: Anything!! The bigoli all'anitra' here is some of the best I've had in Vicenza. And I'm pretty sure that their bistecca is the biggest, juiciest slab of meat served in the Veneto.

    Agriturismo: Local Flavor

    by kcochran111 Updated May 20, 2003

    Aeolia, Costozza

Along the country roads in Vicenza, and especially on the way to smaller outlying towns, you will see signs for an Agriturismo. These are usually farm houses where the owners have converted a room to use as a restaurant.

Favorite Dish: Serving wonderful hearty local dishes (usually grown/raised on site) these places are only open certain days of the week and during warmer seasons. Sample anything that looks interesting, or ask your waiter for a mixed grill (griglia mista) to try a couple dishes.

    Pizzeria Vesuvio: Hot Pizza

Vesuvio offers great pizza at even greater prices. The calzones are huge and delicious, too, but unless you're adventurous, don't try the rest of the menu.

Favorite Dish: Pizza Athena- pizza "bianca" topped with white asparagas, gorgonzola, and spinach

    Nogarazza Restaurant

Paolo makes everything wonderful. He has cooked for the likes of President George Bush, Colin Powell and "Stormin" Norman Schwarzkopf. Everything is fantastic

Favorite Dish: Some of the Riso (rice) dishes are Veneto specialties, and you can't go wrong with one of these

    La Vecchia Smart Car

Great Trattoria style food, and also Pizza. This place gets pretty crowded in the evenings, and is worth a visit when in Vicenza.
    Closed on Tuesdays

Favorite Dish: Any of the Pasta or Rice dishes are great! Pizza is acceptable, but not the best.

    Pizzeria Vesuvio: Great Pizza

This is an excellent Pizza place and restaurant right near Piazza Dei Signori. It is down one of the corridors there. If you want good Italian food that is not too expensive, this is a good choice.
