Royal Potatoes

by Tea4Two

Planted in January and dug around May these potatoes are small and kidney shaped. The skin is very thin and easily rubs away. The best way to have these is boiled and smothered with a generous coating of butter. Yummy!! Another variation is to boil them with some sprigs of mint and serve with a fresh piece of lamb. Pure luxury.

OUTINGS AND ENTERTAINMENT

by eden_teuling

You will never have to walk around aimlessly and listlessly on Jersey, there is so much to do and see and ENJOY.Cinemas, theatres and a wide choice of live music in pubs and often in hotel, where also non-guest can be present, many shows....From Easter till October FORT REGENT at the PIAZZA has live amusement (not on Saturdays) for young and not so young. In The GLOUCESTER HALL with 2.000 seats many international artists will show their skills....And again: don't forget the Hotels and Pubs...Jersey is a bubbling Island, full of life!

BEACHES AND SAFETY........

by eden_teuling

The 8 best beaches you can recognise because they have got "4 DOLPHINS" signs....From 15th May - the end of September the beaches of St. Ouen's Bay, St. Brelade's Bay and Plémont GUARDED by professional bath Attendants. These guarded beaches are marked with yellow / red flags (see picture) .These signs are put in different places throughout the day, this because of the TIDE...Sometimes the Attendants can request (order) people to go to another place.Whenever the circumstances change and it is too dangerous to swim RED FLAGS are placed on the beach. The team of Attendants is very helpful and willing to help you when you hesitate where to go, they know best.....REMEMBER THAT JERSEY HAS EXSTREMELY STRONG TIDAL CURRENTS and even while walking along the coast one can't be careful enough, especially with children: always keep an eye on them.... WALKING THE HIGH ROCKY CLIFF PATHS.

ABOUT THE MANY BEACHES.....

by eden_teuling

Altogether the Island has some 50 miles of coastline (1 mile = 1.6 km.) and as I already have told you, some 20 beaches. Every coast has its golden sand, which is washed twice each day by the extremely high tides.Jersey has the world's third largest tidal range, which means THAT YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL! Staying at my friends' who always prepare a complete programme and I only have to surrender and enjoy!!And.. they know me, know what I like.......

ST. BRELADE BEACH ON JERSEY

by eden_teuling

yES, A SIMPLE QUESTION BUT THE ANSWER IS NOT THAT EASY TO GIVE...Let me begin: it a an island with mild winters, early Springs and long Summers, which is great for someone from The Netherlands..I love beaches and climbing rocks, so that attractive combinations also make it great for me.I have friends there, where I can stay.........that is also very fortunate, isn't it?The variety of land- and sea- and cloudscapes is endless and endlessly beautiful!Swimming is one of my favourite sports....Enough? you can always email me at eden_teuling@VT....... I have a bunch of good memories and I wouldn't know which one to pick out of that wonderful bouquet, but believe me, I have many.....

THE FAMOUS STATUE OF LIBERTY.....

by eden_teuling

Over 700 years ago Jersey was declared INDEPENDENT.....Originally the Island was part of NORMANY in France but William the Conqueror won the fight / war in 1066 and of that day Jersey was ruled by the English for over 200 years. In 1204 however, Jersey was part of Normandy and thus of France, again and the inhabitants had to choose: do we stay French or do we want/have to be loyal to England....Their choice was for England and they acquired special rights and privileges which are still subject to the king or queen of England, now the United Kingdom. The "STATES ASSEMBLY' promotes internal affairs; There is also a Department in London.A Governour represents the Queen and of course there are some Secretaries of State and other civil servants. Each day you can attend a parliament-meeting in the "STATES CHAMBER (Royal Square, St. Helier) I love seeing this proud statue of Liberty because isn't...

WHERE AM I ????

by eden_teuling

Sometimess you will think "WHERE AM I ??" when you hear the native language. My knowledge of French and English is not too bad but this language I had never heard before!!It is called JERSEY FRENCH and is a mixture, a mish-mash of NORWEGIAN and NORMANY FRENCH.......it is nice to hear that's for sure! I am one for rough coasts, rocks and slippery narrow footpaths, for walking and climbing....and always enjoy it to the full!I am not one to be on a beach to get a tan!

Bouley Bay (III)

by steventilly

This is the view from the Island back to the Bouley Bay Hotel. You can get meals here and at the waterfront cafe, and there are rooms at the hotel where you can stay. Bouley bay is quite remote, at the bottom of a winding, narrow road.
