The bay of St Brelades

by Jasen71

St. Brelades Bay is possibly the most popular bay in the island, with visitors and locals alike, and as a result is a bustling and lively beach. Its has a sheltered position on the south west of the island which makes it warmer than some of the other island bays and the gently sloping white sands provide an ideal location for water sports. Opportunities to hire all the paraphernalia associated with a day at the beach (sun loungers, umbrellas etc.) are available all along the bay and there are plenty of small shops, cafes, hotels and restaurants right by the promenade that hugs the sea wall. There are also three large hotels located here.

Janvrins Tomb

by Jasen71

Located in the bay of Portlet is Janvrin's Tomb, which sits on a small islet 'Ile au Guerdain', and is only accessible at the low water mark for a few hours. There is a sad story attached to this island:The tower that you see here was built as a defense against French attack during the 1800s, but it stands above the tomb of a sailor called Philip Janvrin. On returning to the island from a trip to Nantes in the year 1721, Janvrin and his crew were not allowed to land, for fear that they might be infected with the plague that was afflicting the people of that area of France. They where ordered to stay in quarantine on their ship in the nearby Belcroute Bay. It's not known whether the crew were actually suffering from the plague, but sadly poor Janvrin died and his widow was still not allowed to bring his body ashore. Permission was finally given for his body to be interred on 'Ile au...

Noirmont Point and Common

by Jasen71

This beautiful headland offers panoramic views from St. Aubins to St. Helier and beyond to Greve d'Azette, and then sweeping around way out to sea and across to Portelet bay in the west. There are also with its commanding views, it's hardly surprising that this headland was heavily fortified by the Germans during their occupation of the island. A large command bunker is secreted below ground, which is sometimes opened to the public.

Greve de Lecq Barracks

by Jasen71

The National Trust for Jersey look after these Barracks, which where built on the north coast in 1810, resemble a row of old granite cottages. They provided accommodation for Islands soldiers during the Napoleonic Wars. I must also add that my Granmother was born here in 1920 in the middle barrack. Today they contain a local information centre with displays about wild flowers, birds and historic features that can be seen along the cliff footpaths. Located in the parish of St Mary.

The Fishermen's Chapel

by Jasen71

Located next to the parish church of St Brelade is a chapel which dates back to the early Norman times. Recently rediscovered Mural paintings circa 14th C have been fully restored. The paintings were limewashed over at the time of the Reformation due to the roman catholic nature of the paintings and the protestant reformation which led to the vandalism and destruct of many wayside crosses and murals across Jersey and UK.

Grave of Lillie Langtry

by Jasen71

In her life Lille Langtry nee Le Breton daughter of the local Vicar. Led an exciting one, she was the mistress of the Prince of Wales later King Edward VII. She also was a celebrated actress. The cemetery of St. Saviour is worth a visit to see the sculpted tomb memorial of Lillie Langtry, the Jersey Lily. Appropriately enough, the monument incorporates a Jersey lily. The sculpture depicts Lillie as the fin-de-siecle society beauty .

Lalique's Glass Church St Matthew Millbrook.

by Jasen71

Known by locals as the Glass Church and considered to be one of René Lalique's greatest achievements featuring a unique glasswork font, altar rail, cross and pillars. Lady Trent had the church bulit in memory of her late husband Jesse Boot (of the Boots shop fame). Lalique was a family friend of the Boots and the church was finished in 1934. If you like your collectables and antique glass this is a must.

Stunning Wildlife on the North Coast

by Jasen71

When walking the rural cliff paths you often come across plenty of wild birds. Come armed with a pair of binos, and you'll see some stunning bird life. I have added of a group of Shags (diving sea birds) on a rock just off the crabbe area on the north coast.

If nature rules your destination? Greve de Lecq

by Jasen71

There are plenty of Beaches in Jersey, but my favourite is greve de lecq. Greve is an old smuggling harbour, and has a large golden sandy beach where swimming is a pleasure at all states of the tide.. If you can get your hands on a Kayak the coast has many interesting caves and secret bays that are only accessed by kayak or boat....Around the bay are coastal walks that take you through a wealth of wildlife and wild flowers....

Hidden gems on the North coast

by Bushman23

To find some amazing beaches, take a walk / bus/ cycle to the northern part of the island. Some of the beaches there are stunning. They are never crowded, and the water is just as cold there as on the south side of the island... Greve de Lecq & Les Reuses are my particular favourites, with a clifftop walk between them. The Cliff walk starts at Plemont bay, which itself is also very pleasant
