Jersey Hamptonne Country Museum by Jasen71 This collection of farm buildings and meadows takes its name from the Hamptonne family who bought the property in 1633. Laurens Hamptonne proclaimed Charles II king in the Market Place in St. Helier in February 1649. Free parking. Open daily from 2nd April until 5th November (10am to 5pm). Bought by the National Trust for Jersey in 1987, and opened to the public in 1993 after archeological investigation and restoration work by the La Société Jersiaise. The museum is a living history display of Jersey life thru the ages (from 1500's to 1800's). It's like stepping into a time warp and I think they have done a good job. History is brought alive by talkative characters from the past, with demonstrations of by-gone skills and guided tours. They have an excellant cafe on site also. Leave a Comment Address: La Rue de la Patente, St LawrencePhone: 01534 863955Directions: Follow the Grande Route de St Laurent towards Three Oaks, and turn right and follow the signs to the Museum.

Corbiere Lighthouse by Jasen71 In the Parish of St Brelade is the Corbiere Lighthouse. It was built in 1873 Corbiere lighthouse was the first concrete built lighthouse in the British Isles and is positioned on the south west corner of the Island. Many ships had come to grief on the rocks before the lighthouse was built, and the local gave no quarter to the survivors, as they where interested in the cargos of the wrecked ships... Corbiere is a great place to walk around, and in the summer months a car boot sale is held nearby on a saturday 8am till 2pm.. Leave a Comment Address: St BreladeDirections: Served by bus route 12.

I am a tree by Jasen71 The Zoo was set up by the late renowned conservationist and author Gerald Durrell in 1959 and today is still home to hundreds of endangered species. Everything from vivid pink flamingoes to tiny fruit bats and large lowland gorillas ( a famous incident happen many years ago when a young lad fell into the gorilla enclosure and the alpha male Jambo was seen to be protecting the young lad from the other younger male gorillas) can be seen in this vast animal habitat. Over one hundred species of animals reside within the 42 acres of beautiful parkland and water gardens that make up Jersey Zoo. Many of these animals are among the rarest in the world. The Zoo is open every day of the year except Christmas day, and closes at dust. Visitors can picnic on the lawn or visit the Cafe. Leave a Comment

Splice the main brace by Jasen71 To the western end of the bay is the little town and port of St. Aubins. This lovely little town and was once Jersey's main port. It's well worth having a walk around the area. The harbour here once brought great wealth into the island and fine old merchant houses can still be seen in the area. St. Aubins Fort (above right) was built in the 1540s to protect the ships that anchored in the area, and is accessible on foot only at low tide. The Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club is situated at this end of the bay and the Fort forms the focal point of junior sailing lessons during the summer months. St Matthews church offers the unique opportunity to see the work of Parisian Rene Lalique with its moulded white glass. There is lily motifs in the moulded glass which symbolises purity and can be seen throughout the church. The communion table is made of frosted glass to give the appearance of stone whilst behind it stands the cross 4 metres high displaying Madonna lillies. As you leave the church admire the angels set in the main oak door panels, which are some 15cm thick, the chip two thirds of the way down is said to have been caused by a Nazi gun being flung against it during a street fiasco. The church was first consecrated in 1840 as a chapel of ease, so residents of the Millbrook area would no loger need to travel up the hill to the Parish church of St Lawrence. The Lalique glass was only installed in 1934. The Refurbishment of the interior with the Lalique glass was done in memory of Jesse Boot, founder of UK store Boots. The church is open every sunday at 11am for worship Leave a Comment Address: La Grande Route de St Aubin, St Lawrence
