  • Excellent public transport

The airport and many places you may want to visit are connected to St Helier by public bus. All buses end/finish their journey at the bus station by the waterfront. Across the street from this station you’ll find the Tourist Information Centre “Jersey Tourism” - selling a bus information booklet (50p) which we found very useful: it contains maps...

  • Scooter Hiring

Hiring a scooter is well worth it. For a weekend, it cost me about £ 60 + petrol (which is rather cheap because it is a scooter). To me, except if you have children, there is no reason to hire a car since the island is so small and since there are so many convenient bike parkings about everywhere on the island. So for my stay this was the perfect...

  • Bus Stops

Not all bus stops have a pole in the ground detailing the arrival times of the next bus. The bus stop signs are located on the road and the bus will stop at the closest stop after you push the bell. Also sometimes at the bus stops the only times displayed are those of the explorer buses so make sure you carry a timetable with you at all times.

Arriving in St. Helier you can get car rental information at the Tourist Office.I remember it being quite cheap but of course you can't drive very much in Jersey, it is such a small island. So you use almost no petrol. My photo album from 1991 tells me we paid about € 32 euro including petrol!

  • Taxi are hard to come by at 2am!!

After falling out of a nightclub in St Helier on a Saturday night (along with hundreds of others), the volume of taxis was pitiful. The queues at the taxi ranks were ridiculous and the best way to get a cab was to start walking back the hotel and then trying to flag one down.

  • Cycling routes

On my second trip to Jersey myself & Jean (travelling companion), bought ourselves cheap mountain bikes from one of the bike hiring shops in St Helier, at a price of about 35 quid each.
