Taxis

by tenerifejohn

Can I recommend you book a taxi in advance to avoid any queues at the airport. I was able to book a taxi to collect me from the aiport to hotel and return for approx 28 GBP which I thought was good value. Thats just 14GBP each way - I used Yellow cabs 01534 8888888. the offical site information from the Jersey Tourist boards reads:Taxis Taxi ranks can be found at the airport and St Helier. Different tariffs are applied for day and night hire and on public holidays. Extra charges are made for waiting time and luggage not carried in the passenger compartment. Tariffs are subject to change. There are two types of taxis on the Island, Controlled and Restricted (private). The main difference between the two is that Controlled taxis have a yellow roof sign and a restricted taxi will have a white roof sign normally with the company name on and the words ?restricted?.It is advisable to always...

Taxi are hard to come by at 2am!!

by LittleDee

After falling out of a nightclub in St Helier on a Saturday night (along with hundreds of others), the volume of taxis was pitiful. The queues at the taxi ranks were ridiculous and the best way to get a cab was to start walking back the hotel and then trying to flag one down.

You'll need a hire car!!

by Mortyone

To see jersey easily and quickly you need a car. You could walk or cycle but if you need to get from one side of the island to the other in around 30 mintues you need a car. There are buses but these seem to be in-fequent.

From cliff paths to quiet country lanes. Walking

by Jasen71

Whether coast walks, woodland walks or pub walks are your thing, There is a maze of paths and lanes just waiting to be explored. There are a number of allocated 'Green Lanes' around the Island which have a 15 mph speed limit and give priority to pedestrians and cyclists. This makes walking around the Island a safe and experience. A very popular Island walking event is the Itex walk. A charity fundraiser, it attracts an increasing number of walkers each year all of whom aim to walk around the entire Island in just one day. Walkers start off in the early hours of the morning to battle the 48 or so miles...Jersey Tourism help to arrange walks of all standards, which are conducted by experienced guides, which are well worth attending.

EasyLink Coaches

by Jasen71

EasyLink Coaches pick up and drop visitors off at the Island's bays and attractions and provide courtesy pick up from hotels. Coach users can either pay when they hop onto the coach at sites sporting the EasyLink signs or purchase an advance ticket. The EasyLink Coach depot is located at the Weighbridge. This service has the tourist in mind, and is well used by the locals also.

Connex Transport Jersey Ltd

by Jasen71

Buses operate throughout the Island from the central bus station which is located at the Weighbridge, opposite Jersey Tourism, in St. Helier. Compared to the island of Guernsey; Connex aren't as cheap!

Whether it's a mountain bike or a tandem. Cycling

by Jasen71

Jersey's wealth of quiet 'Green' lanes have created a cycle network that can peacefully take you on two wheels through all twelve parishes. Some of these lanes have been identified as "Green" which gives pedestrians and cyclists priority over motor vehicles, along with a 15 mph speed limit. There is a waymarked set of routes across the Island that make the most of these lanes but if you want more guidance it is possible to hook up with professional tour guides who can tell you everything you might like to know about the landmarks and scenery en route.

Condor Ferries

by Bushman23

Condor ferries offers high speed travel to Guernsey & Jersey, at quite cheap rates if you don?t take a car. they have a bar on board, as well as Duty-free, and a restaurant. Very comfortable travel! The ferries leave from Weymouth, Poole & Portsmouth.

Cycling routes

by Bushman23

On my second trip to Jersey myself & Jean (travelling companion), bought ourselves cheap mountain bikes from one of the bike hiring shops in St Helier, at a price of about 35 quid each. Though not the greatest, they were more than adequate, as they can be taken all over the island! Definitely can save you money if you are prepared to cycle instead of catch a bus / taxi.

Bus or Coach?

by Tea4Two

The Island of Jersey has a Public Bus Service and also a number of Private Coach Services which are used mainly for Island Tours. The Public Bus Service covers most parts of the Island. The Private Coach Companies visit most of the Island attractions and also have inexpensive Full Day and Half Day Coastal tours of the whole island. Inland Tours are also arranged on smaller coaches to take account of the narrow country lanes.
