In Aizkraukle there is a stadium (in 2005 municipality bought stadium from NGO, at the moment it starts to develop), 2 sports grounds and 3 gym-halls at schools, several sports grounds for leisure time activities, 2 grounds for beach volleyball, private ice hall, private manege and swimming pool. There is possibility to develop water sports (racing boat, boating, sailing) because of Daugava river reservoir. Every other year this place is one of those where take place different water moto sports: water moto bykes, boats etc. Annually take place different sport competitions (mini football, volleyball, basketball, ice hockey, soccer, handball and unconventional sport games), there are karate club activities and sport school activities (track and field, handball, skiing/biathlon, free style, ice hockey). Aizkraukle municipality is going to build new modern sports hall - but it will be probably 2010.

Favorite thing: Aizkraukle is really one of the newest towns of Latvia, it began in the sixties as the village of Stuchka, which housed the builders of the nearby hydroelectric power plant of Plavinas (the biggest Hydroelectric power plant in Baltic states). Eeven if town is built in 20th century 60ties, there can find some historical things (like castle ruins of Livonian Order, cult oak, historical and art museum, sacrificial stone, 2 castle mounds etc). Why I liked Aizkraukle? Because even if this town is very typical town of Soviet Union (with typical boxhouses), it has very beautiful places at Daugava river, in this region there are protected landscapes and country park. And most imortant thing (which is not only in Aizkraukle, but in Latvia general) - people who live there they care about latvian culture. You shoud see traditional latvian dances!
