Araisi Lake Castle is the museum - the wooden island village, which is located in the district of Cesis.
The museum, which consists of reconstructions of buildings of Stone and Bronze Age, where settlement of Latgalians in 9th – 11th century was.
There are also ruins of medieval castle dated back to Livonian time.
Now a full name of the museum park is Open-air archaeological museum of Araisi Lake Castle.
In 1965 - 1969, 1975 - 1979 archaeological excavations were carried out in Araisi Lake Castle because the water level of the Araisi Lake was low enough. In the result of that excavations about 2 000 antiquities were found, which became the evidence about a way of life of Latgalians in the 9th – 11th centuries.
Reconstruction of Araisi Lake Castle was started in 1980. It became one of the most popular and attractive tourism objects in Latvia.

In Araisi there is near the lake old church, where the restoration was going.
Reason, why I writing in here about this church, is the big colorful stained glass windows.
I've not seen ever before such beautyful and captivating windows.
I think, when you going to see Lake Castle, then you certainly must to enter in church ...
In the wall of the Araisi Church built in 1225 a girl of a handyman is said to have been immured. The legend proved to be true in 1791, when during a reconstruction human remains where found in the church wall. There are mainly the 17th century carpentry works (benches, pulpit), presented in the interior of the church.
