St. John church locates in old town square. It is a largest old basilica church in Latvia. Temple is built in gothic style in 1281—1284 of limestone. St. John church was a major temple of Livonian Order. Its massive tower towers over the square. Altar painting was painted by estonian painter Johann Köler.
Today it is a Lutheran church, open also for tourists. Tower of church is terrace for nice panorama of town.
Becouse of lack of money renovation of the churh is slow.

Castle of Cesis or Castle of the Livonian Order - it is most attractive sight in Cesis ... I think.
It cost for you only 2 Lv, (about 2,8 EUR, 4,5 USD).
There are peoples in medieval costume at the ticket-kiosk, who giving to you medieval-lantern, which lighting in the tower of castle with candle-light you steps on the stairs. It's exciting ... You can climb on the stairs of castle, spend you time by walking in the castle courtyard ... and you can visit even the prison in the castle.
I think this castle worth to visiting ... at least I don't be regret ;)
German crusaders known as the Livonian Order began construction of a castle near the hill fort in 1209.
Once the most important castle of the Livonian order that also has been the official residence for orders chiefs of the order, it was partly destroyed during the Great Northern War.

When you needed just to spend the time by walking, you can do it in May Park in centre of city.
It is beautyful park with sculptures, fountains and flowers. There are some ducks and two beautyful black swan ... so view is magnificent.
The park was once known as the Alexei Park , a name given in 1904 in honor of the birth of Russian crown prince Alexei.
In the park there is the work of sculptor Karlis Jansons “Battle with Centour”, which has become one of the town’s most familiar symbols.
Since 2005 there is a pair of black swans from Lisbon.

Outside this church is usual, nothing attractive there I didn't found. Only the monk beside the church, with who it is good to take the picture :).
For me, as Estonians it was more important go inside to see the altar-painting, which was drawn by Estonian artist Johann Köler in 1858.

Adventure park in summer and skiing resort in winter.
Don't know how this park looks in winter, but in summer it's fantastic place: adventure park, amazing view and footpath in mountains.
Adventure park is very good occupation for active people or families with children over 12 years old.
Only one problem - huge prices.

Do you want to see something amazing? Visit Cesis castle and castle park. Probably the best view in Cesis.
When I was in Cesis (6th - 8th June, 2008) castle was under construction, so I saw just outside and park, but i was satisfied with that view.
I think the castle will be finished soon, so you could see more then me.

The castle is built in the beginning of 13th century and it was a residence for Master of Livonian Order. The castle had 5 towers. These ruins are one of the most impressive in Latvia. Unfortunately my photos do not show these ruins in its full majesty. May be next time I will visit Cesis I will take better photos.

Cesis Medieval Castle (13th ? 16th) represents not only the most popular attraction in the historic centre of Cesis, but also the most impressive and best-preserved complex of ruins in Latvia. Cesis Castle was one of the Livonian Order?s strongest fortresses in the Baltics, and the residence of the masters of the Order.
