This is the city’s most recent and largest “parade” square, and it is an important part of the city today. The square took on its current appearance in 1939.
On the middle of the square The Cçsis Victory Monument takes it`s place. The basic theme of the monument is: a sun rising from the flames of battle. The Soviet regime blew up the monument in 1951. In the late 1990s the monument was restored, and it was unveiled for a second time in 1998. It has become the dominant factor of the city centre and the city’s pride and joy.

This is the most ornate park in the city, and a popular place for leisure activities (various concerts, opera festivals, shows and parties take a place here!). The history of the park dates back to 1812, when local officials began to etablish a park. Gardeners installed a romantic landscape park, with an artificial pond in the centre-complete with an island. In the 1930s six sculptures of children along the sides of the stairs were installed. Another set of steps was installed to the pond, reaching all the way to the water level. The images of fishermen and their nets were sculpted for that part of the park.

The Cesis castle is the most impressive and best-preserved set of castle ruins in Latvia, and it is certainly the most popular attraction in the old part of Cesis. The Cesis castle was one of the strongest fortresses that the Livonian Order had in the entire Baltic region. Built in the 13th century, the Cesis castle was the seat of the Livonian Order’s masters.
TIP A tour around the castle by the guides dressed up like LO masters is something really worth to see!

This church built in the end of 13th century was one of the main churches in Livonia. The tower is built later than the rest of the church – in 19th century.

The old Cesis Brewery is a typical late 19th century industrial building. The brewery is deservedly known as one of the oldest in Baltics.

The Castle’s Tower provides you a splendid view of the town, and the flag flying here reminds us that Cesis is the birthplace of the Latvian flag.
