By the riverside of Rauna there is nice steep bank wherefrom many springs flow. All in all you can catch here very beautiful view to rocky wall, which is always moist.
It's not allowed to walk by steep bank.

It is said, that they are more than 20 meters long. With caves there are connected some tales, which also connected with Cesis old castle. One youth wanted to get to the castle, he entered in the caves and also got to the castle, but there was belted so much, that he couldn't say anything. Therefore the caves have such name - big hell.
Remember that in Latvia it's not allowed to walk into the caves.
From cave flows out very clean spring water.

Near the rock there is a small bridge, which crossing you can climb up the rock, but the bridge is special, if you're afraid of walking and swaying together, than better to cross it alone. That steep bank is more than 40 meters high and from there you can catch good views to surroundings and Amata river. More than twenty years ago, near river Gauja was established Gauja National park on purpose to protect rear plants, forest territories, to save and maintain this place's special landscape. Nowadays here are formed many airing trails. Here are also made special roads and routs for cyclists. I haven't go with bicycle there, but I like very much animal trail, during which you can enjoy walking through the forest. Here lives animals, which have been found, abandon or who can't life on their own.
Going here, take with you binocular, because sometimes you can't see the animal, their territories are very wide, but some of them just waiting for new visitors. Here you can see bears, foxes, lynxes and other typical Latvian animals.

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The pont is the only one of such kinds in all Baltic States. It is wooden boat, but it doesn't look like boat, rather raft, which is moved by cable, and stream of river Gauja helps to move a boat. This type of moving was very popular thing in old times, when somebody wanted to cross the river.
Nowadays, you can cross the river also taking with you your car.

    Straupe church and castle

by Inguuna Updated Jan 19, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Going to Valmiera, on the right side of the road you can see majestic building - complex, which consists of castle and church. Frankly speaking I'd say it's small castle, but in old times it was located in very strategically important place, in that times near the castle was going great commerce road. This building, which combines together many architecture styles, was built in the middle of 13th century and from the beginning it was owned by Riga archbishop. During many centuries it was suffering from fires and also changed a lot it's owners, as the last one here was baron Rozen. Interesting that church's bell tower, which was built in the 19th century is located not in the church, but hundred meters away from it.

    Rabbit farm

by Inguuna Updated Jan 29, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is the place for animal lovers :). Here are a few thousand rabbits, but for visitors it can be seen not so much. There are many different rabbit species. These which are rare are holding in special cages, but they can also be seen. Common rabbit species are holding in special garden where everyone can go. Of course, you must walk gently, because like all rabbits these are easily frightened and they feel if somebody wants to hurt them. So, be patient and maybe you’ll find there some new friend and, of course, don’t forget rabbits’ delicacies – carrots. Even if you forget it with the owner’s help you can get them.
At the entrance you can buy various rabbits’ furs and many other things which are closely connected with rabbits. Entrance price for donations.
