Dinaburg former castle site
Former castle that firstly was mentioned in 1275 is in ruins now, so good idea was to build here small model (a copy) of castle, showing how it looked like. Livonian Order decided to build this castle to strengthen position of land, as it was still territory of pagans and Lithuanian Grand Duke Traidenis attempted to siege the castle few times till his death. Later it was demolished by Ivan the Terrible, Russian Tsar. The Dinaburg territory, that is about 20 kilometers away from Daugavpils, but is called as the beginning of Daugavpils city, was significant due to location. It was as route from Novgorod to Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania and used as water route from Russia to Baltic sea.
