Lacplesis Monument

by ealgisi

Latvia's epic was Lacplesis, set in pagan Latvia of 800 years ago, around the time of the nation's conquest by German Crusaders. Like Estonia's Kalevipoeg epic, Latvia's epic recounts the exploits of a giant-sized man named Lacplesis who endeavors to defend his homeland from assorted invaders. Lacplesis, or the Bear Slayer, is part man, part bear which accounts for his unusually large, fuzzy ears. Otherwise a kindly figure, Lacplesis goes into action whenever his fellow Latvians are in trouble. His specialty is marauding bears, which he can slay by ripping their jaws apart with his bare hands.

Concert Hall

by ealgisi

This Jurmala venue is Latvia’s most popular concert hall during the summer. The most hip summer festivals and contests take place here, such as “New Wave” and “KVN” international pop contests. The season starts in the end of May and goes until September. The Concert Hall is easily accessible from Riga by train, and is just off the beach, along the main, pedestrian street in Jurmala.

A walk in the city - Majori, Jomas iela

by ealgisi

Jomas iela (iela = street) is the main street of Majori, the central part of Jurmala. This is where you'll find most of the town's restaurants, bars and cafés, as well as quite a few hotels and spas - Jomas iela is undoubtedly the main "tourist centre" of Jurmala.

Beach

by ealgisi

Jurmala means seaside or beach in Latvian - and Jurmala's 32 km long white-sand beach is, along with the numerous spas, the area's main attraction. The Bulduri and Majori parts of the beach have been awarded the blue flag - meaning that they meet various tough criteria regarding water quality, environmental management, facilities and safety. The coastal waters here are very shallow, and quite often reaches temps around 20°C - not at all bad for northern Europe...!

Others

Then we've tried almost all other possible attractions like: Ciba waterslide, Livu waterslide, Tornado Lasens feature, Carbbean wave pool, Silver mines, Orinoco river, etc. But they weren't so much excited after that when we tried the scariest two first:) But, no doubts, we had fun with these, two. Orinoco river was very relaxing at the end of all attractions...

Crazy Flight waterslide

by ginte

Tube length is 135 m. Warning - high speed! This waterslide is another scary one from the two scariest in LIVU. I'm sure you already know what I will write next. Yes, you are right. We kept on going and tried this attraction as a second one after the Red Devil waterslide. :) Fun fun fun...:) My boyfriend enjoyed these too much, so most of the time there he spent only on these two.Note to guys: not all girls will like these two scariest tunels, so don't hesitate to try that alone:)

Red Devil waterslide

Tube length is 83,2 m. Warning - very high speed! We were crazy enough to try the scariest one first. :) And we had fun! Yes, the speed is really high and at the end of a tube it's hard even to take a breath.

LIVU

by ginte

An aquapark LIVU was opened at the end of 2003. Water attractions and amusement park is just 25 km away from Riga. The total park area is 11 000 square meters. Two of 7 sliding tubes – for those who prefer extreme entertainment modes (we were too brave as actually we tried these two first :) ) and unique attraction Super bowl – the first and presently the only one in Europe. And also river, swimming pool with artificial tide, special zone for children, as well as many other amusements. There is also a special area with sauna, several other types of bath, Jacuzzi, a range of restaurants and shops.

Caviar on the beach

by BlueLlama

Buy some freshly baked bread and caviar - great variety in Latvia - and some disposable picnic items. Head off to the beach. Enjoy some luxury whilst looking out to sea. Perfect. If you can, go in autumn when Jurmala is quiet but not too cold and the only company on the beach is the occasional nordic walker and the gulls.

walk, swim, run, biking on the beach...

by Thoomuch

People seems to been doing a lot on the beach....we did infact ride on our bikes at the beach, we found at that it was easier to bike there than on the so called pavement (wich not are in the best conditions).
