Romantic way how to get there - ship

by LanaFromRiga

If you have enough time and the weather is nice, take your friend (husband, wife et.) and go to Jurmala by ship. The way will take 2,5 hours. It is great way to see "The Sea gate" when Daugava River flows into the sea.

Attention to all who will go to Jurmala by car

by LanaFromRiga

You have to pay for the entry to Jurmala. Now it is 1 LVL. Pay point is close to the bridge above the river Lielupe. The check locate under the front window of your car. The check is valid for one daynight, for the second daynight you have to buy one more.

English not spoken

by Sininen

I forgot to mention that in the railway station in Riga not everybody speaks English. The first lady I asked for the ticket looked shocked and said 'Achtzehn' (18 in German) and I thought she meant that I would get my ticket at ticket window 18. As soon as I got out of her sight I went to the next ticket window and got my ticket without any problems.

Train to Marjori

by Sininen

You can drive to Jurmala or take a bus but I chose a train to get to Jurmala's centre, which is called Majori. The trip took 40 minutes each way and cost 1,01 lats, which is about 1,40 euros. The train was old-fashioned with wooden benches, which I found charming. There were not many other passengers and the trains were very clean. They also ran in time.

How to get there from Riga

By carDrive along the well-kept 15km long highway from Riga, which is the best stretch of highway in Latvia. The route is also dubbed '10 minutes in America' as this was the set for Soviet movies about the capitalist American enemy. Capitalism is still alive and kicking here: all motorists have to stop at the control post to pay a 1Ls/day toll

By trainThe first train service between Riga and Jurmala started in 1877. Over a century later the electrichka , electrical commuter train, is still slow and takes 40 minutes from the central train station to Majori. Trains leave roughly every half hour from 05:28 to 23:05 in summer, from platforms 3 and 4.

You can also go from/to Jurmala by the local train. It is very cheap. Also you get a kind of nostalgia as the trains infact are from the USSR time......BUT be sure that you know where to jump off, there are not any good signs and people general dont speak so good english....but we did get help on the train with that (...otherwise we had been lost, but that´s another story). Also the "stations" seems to be in the middel of nowhere and you really dont know in wich direction to go....there are no signs.

When you arrive to Jurmala there is a paylstation there you have to pay 1 LS (for every 24 hour) in envoirment fee for entering Jurmala. If you don´t have coins, you can change in a small shop just beside the paymachines.

By bus, by train, it's very easy

Is very easy to get Jurmala. There are a lot of buses and trains between Riga and Jurmala since 6.00 AM till midnight, and the trip duration is only about 30 minutes. .See the timetables of both options in following site.

Train from Riga to Jurmala

by Grai

Train is the easiest way to get to Jurmala from Riga. However, when buying a ticket (from the kassa at the main Railway station) you must realize that Jurmala is the name given to the conglomeration of many villages in the area, so there is no train station called 'Jurmala'. Most of the stations provide easy access to the beach, but the central one is Majori; so ask for a ticket to Majori rather than Jurmala.
