Liiv sacrifice caves / Libiesu upuralas

by Inguuna

There you can see the longest and naturally formed caves in Latvia. They are more than 45 meters long, however it's not recommended to creep into the caves. In old times here was ancient cult place for Liivs, although during many years researchers found here many coins and different antiquities. During landslide nowadays one can see here two caves.

Veczemji red cliffs / Veczemju sarkanas klintis

by Inguuna

These are one of the beautiful cliffs in Latvia. They are more than five meters high and in the cliffs you can see more niches in different sizes. I wouldn't recommend creeping into the cliff, because they are protected. You can see the beauty of the cliffs in their colours, which are from yellow to dark red. If you're here in early spring, you can see many springs, which come from the top of cliffs.

Attractions near Birinu castle

by Inguuna

Here are large castle complex where are located the same castle, lake, crypt and gardens. You can easily spend here half of the day walking and watching around. Last summer when I was there, I saw some kind of birds, like guinea-fowl, who wanted to attack me when I tried to speak with him, and swans in the nearest lake. You can also see here ponies which are very kind and if you have children then probably ride with them.

The big Laucu stone

by Inguuna

The big Laucu stone is located in seaside of Vidzeme. It's not the largest stone in Latvia despite this stone's sizes. It's two meters high, and for taking pictures you can easily climb it up. More than sixty tons weighty stone some centuries ago has washed ashore up. It is said it came from Finland.

Birinu castle

by Inguuna

This soft rose-colored Bīriņu castle is one of my favorites in that region. This current castle is built at the end of 19th century in neo-gothic style. And for that time the castle was very impressive building. The first owner of the castle was Johan Biring, possibly from his surname the castle name derived. During next centuries many owners have been there both counts, and barons. Above the entrance there is plaque with inscription in Latin language: “Relinque infantibus amorem patriae”, which means: “I leave to the future generations fatherland’s love”.Near castle complex there is parking place for cars and to enter the castle you need to by ticket.
