Castle locates near the town centre. It is neo-renaissance castle built in 1890 for A.G.B.Emil Von Wulf. Building was designed by H.Giesebah. Whole castle is built with granite. It has 3 small towers and one big massive tower - the main tower.
There are more then 20 of long chimneys towering over the castle roof. All this towers chimneys and small windows on the roof make castle looking magic.

    Let me introduce this town.

This is a VERY special place for me. I spent most of my childhood there and that's the place where I want my ashes to be scattered (I'm not sure my relatives will obey my will though). :)

    Anyway, back to business.

First of all, it's a quite compact town, located about 18-20 km north of Madona (there is quite good buss traffic between them), so you'll be able to see many beautiful places here in an couple of hours without missing something special.

The town is located a bit above than main highway Madona-Gulbene, so in sunny day from there you can see surroundings far away.

    Main things you should see:

    1) Castle of Cesvaine, mixture or Gothic, art nouveau, romanthic style. Built from 1890 till 1897. Residence of baron von Wulf. On the roof you can see symbol of Wulf family - wolf (with a touch of lion and fox appearance, as well) with sword. Funny thing is - that roof's wolf ass is in direction of nearby Gulbene city - then residence of Wulf's enemy Wolf.

Unfortunately, huge fire in December of 2002 destroyed whole roof. A year later the roof was restored for castle's left flank and reconstruction work continues.

    2) Right beside the castle (if you go from the main entrance - left side) - remnants of Riga archibishop's stone castle which was destroyed by Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible in 1577 during Livonia War.

    3) Huge manor park behind the castle. There is small Love bridge (milestibas tiltins) above Sula river (more like stream).

    4) Lutheran church (built in 1879) in the other side of the town in front of local cemetery. The other church in Cesvaine - Roman Catholic was built in 1997.

    5) Vicarage in the other side of the town (heading via Raina Street).

    6) Castle of Grasi (small settlement about 2 km from Cesvaine, if you go past very high TV tower), built in 1784. Surrounded by park. A couple of kilometres away there is a huge stone, so called "devil's stone" (Volku velnakmens), about 4 meters of height.

    Enjoy the trip! :)
