Next palace by Bartolomeo Rastrelli, built in the 18th century. These days there's Agricultural University inside and tourists can visit some chambers on the first floor. We couldn't do it as everything was closed.

12 kilometres west off Bauska a tourist will find a palace which is thought to be the most beautiful example of Baroque art in Latvia. It was designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli- a famous designer who also designed The Winter Palace in Sankt Petersburg. The palace has more than 130 chambers . The most valuable of them is the gold chamber used as a throne chamber. The palace is surrounded by a garden which is still "under processing."

Bauska- a town on the way to Kaunas (80 kilometres south off Riga) is small and peaceful. You may stop for a while to visit the ruins of the Teutonic castle picturesquely situated on the bank of the river. It's said that it's possible to climb up the castle tower but the tower was closed and there was nobody inside. Nobody- except for two tourists who turned out to be from my town, Gdynia! The castle was originally built in the 15th century but destroyed in the beginning of the 18th century.

20 kilometres north-west off Dobele, in Jaunpils we found a nice little castle built in the 17th century on the ruins of the 13th century Teutonic castle. There's a museum inside-but rather small (subtitles in Latvian and Russian) and a hotel. By the castle we can see a 19th century watermill and a 16th century church which is said to have a beautiful altar. It's said but the church was closed and we couldn't enter the church.I don't recommend a cafe.

Dobele is a town situated 30 kilometres west off Jelgava- we happened to be there while driving around to taste Latvia. There are remains of he Teutonic castle (13th century but renbuilt in 17th) but last residents left it in the 18th century. Just to stop for a while.

Four types of saunas exist in Latvia:1. The wet sauna is the most common – here, water is poured on heated stones and people thrash each other using whisks made of various grasses or twigs. The temperature in this type of sauna is +60 +80C.2. The dry sauna which is heated by electricity with the temperature being capable of reaching +100C.3.
