English pub in Riga. When I went into this pub, it was like going to my local. Even the pictures on the wall where from places around England. It really felt like someone had picked up this pub and put it down in Riga.

Frequented by day by the diplomats and embassy staff who also work in the Jacob’s Barracks, this restaurant provides a warm, intimate setting a few steep steps down from the old city wall. Named after the national drink of Latvia, Balzams offers far more than just potent elixirs. The atmosphere is convivial in the evenings, with well-heeled locals having a good time with cocktails made from the bitter black herbal liquor which is actually better than it sounds when mixed with something else. They prefer it with black currant juice which is what I had. It was a really nice warming drink with a fruity punch taste. It certainly warmed me up again for going back out in the cold streets. Supposedely the biggest niteclub in the Baltics. Several bars and various music areas and a small cinema. In case you absolutely wanna see a film in the middle of all this... Quite variying, but trainer's not allowed.

This one had pub downstairs,and sort of disco/nightclub upstairs-and waitresses,who didn´t want customets-at least it looked like that.First time we managed to get a drink,but next day we didn´t get any weitreses to notice us-no matter what we did-sat on the table-they walked by,evn if we tried to take a contact,we tried to go inside and see if they notice us ther.Not even when we went stand next to bar-deck with staff behind it-we really didn´t manage to order!!An it wasn´t a busy night,and full place.I wanted to tell this-that you shouln´t go here!We left wihout a beer,and crossed the street to Dickens-had a beer with friendly smile in few minutes.
la rocca looks like it used to be the main spot, but has recently been taken over by essential, its a younger, poorer crowd and although the birds are nice, they aint got nothing on essential though. Dont get me wrong you will still have a banging night in LaRocca, its good, but not amazing.
There are a lot of guys and girls on the nightly Riga offering flyers with free entrance, special drinks etc, but keep in mind that it's all advertising stuff - don't go to these clubs, go to clubs that do not advertise themselves. Good ones are Casablanka, Pulkvedis, Hedonia. If you look "normal" you'll get in there :)
Many different kinds of beer.Not maybe as cheap as some places around Liv laukums,but nice tough.We also tought they had better snack-food.There are lots of locals,too,but also tourists.It was near our hotel,so we liked to go there.And music was more rock than in some other places-we don´t like disco,hip hop and so on.And it was still cheap for a Finn,even if not so cheap as some other. Anything goes
In summertime those markets(laukums) are full of tables and full of peolple.It was quite nice until some English foodball fans came to sign loud and drunken..It was the Worlchampion foodballs last weekend(or something-we don´t know anything about sports).But there were so many beergardens that we changed to another one.Some of them serve food too. Allmost anything I think.
