Take a boat till the "Sea Gate"

by LanaFromRiga

There are several boats in Daugava near the Old Riga. Take boat "Vecriga" at 19.00 every day and its take you till the "Sea Gate" - the place where Daugava river flows in to the Gulf of Riga (the Baltic sea). Take war coat with you, because it is evening and may be cold. If you have no coat, staff will give you warm rug. It is possible to buy snacks and drinks inside the boat, but prices are fantastic. Advice: take everything with you. ;-)

Jurmala

by Fen

Jurmala is only 25 km from Riga and it lies between the winding River Lielupe and the sea. In fact it is so convenient that many visitors prefer to base themselves in the town's pleasant hotels, rather than in the city.

Coal

by RB_Oakes

I took the ferry to Stockholm. On the way out of Riga there are two things I found quite interesting. One were the spits at the edge of the Baltic Sea where families and couples waved us goodbye. The other was the massive coal piles with brightly coloured cranes. Admittedly, the colours lost a little (ok, a lot) in the translation from reality to this photograph, but the contrast of all these bright colours was amazing. Watch for it when entering/exiting Riga by ferry.

When in Riga why not get on the Train and go to Jurmala which has a lovely beach in the summer. I went there to go to this special restuarant that my friend wanted to take me to so i saw the beach also. This Turtle is near the beach and if you touch it and make a wish it should come true...!

The world's smallest mechanical camera, the Minox, and its inventor Walter Zapp (1905-2003)In 1937, the State Electrotechnical Plant (Valsts Elektrotehniskā Fabrika-VEF) began production in Riga of the world's first functioning miniature camera, the VEF Minox, invented by Walter Zapp from Riga. This was an entirely novel kind of camera, which, thanks to its simplicity and ease of use, not only promoted amateur photography, but also opened up completely new possibilities. This miniature camera (17 x 27 x 80 mm, 125 g.), without any additional equipment, gives a sharp, high-contrast image at a distance of as little as 20 cm, and the image can be enlarged up to 20 times without losing quality. With its 8×11 mm film, the camera also became an immediate favourite among secret agents, who praised its capacity for rapid and technically simple photographing of documents in excellent...

Walking along the river Daugava out of the centre

by LanaFromRiga

How to get to this place: take the tram Nr.7 or 9 from the centre. The station of these trams is near the National Opera house. You have to go until the end station and take the write side. Just 300 m along the river and you’ll see swans.

The boats station in the river Daugava became of swans, doves and ducks gathering place. This place is in the eastern region of Riga – Kengarags. If you decide to come here don’t forget the white bread. It would be the nice treat to all these birds.

The gallery of celebrities in the museum was started in the 1980’s when the museum received several upper-class presentable models made in exclusive series from the Moscow automobiles factory “ZiL”.
