Favorite thing: When heading north to Mezaparks or the zoo. You may see this tram on line 11 which costs a bit more but is good fun.
For tramway fans: there is a museum in depot no. 5 which is open during workdays. I was there on Sunday which was hopeless. Ask for tramvai musei (in Russian) as people there don't speak English.

Favorite thing: Riga is divided by the river Daugava which runs into the Gulf of Riga. It is Latvia's longest river (367 km).
Take a walk halfway over the Akmens bridge or Vansu Bridge and enjoy the silhouette of buildings and church towers of the the Old Town on the banks of the Daugava river.

Favorite thing: If you like Art Nouveau architecture (Jugendstil) , Riga is the place to go. Many centuries-old ornate buildings of the architect Mikahail Eisenstein survived in the Old Town of Riga (Vecriga).
Among other streets, Art Nouveau buildings are concentrated in the streets around Elizabetes iela.

Favorite thing: There are two distinct groups of people in Riga, the Russians and the Latvians. Russians outnumber the Latvians roughly by 2 to 1, and you may notice two seperate tongues being spoken here. Although national feelings toward the Russians are not the best, in Riga there are well accepted.

Favorite thing: Riga is divided into 6 regions and suburbs. In the centre between the Daugava River and the city canal the historical part of Riga - Old Riga is situated. Take a walk through the labyrinth of medieval streets. Gothic churches and ancient buildings remind you of the Middle Ages. Old Riga contains over 150 architectural monuments. It's really worth to see! During your walk I'm sure you will feel that you have made a journey back in the time. A foreigner who is here for the first time can even lose his way. But we, Rigans, are so happy to be lost here... And after couple of hours we always open a door of any cozy bar or cafe....It is difficult to explain, you should feel this atmosphere by yourself! Welcome!

Favorite thing: Take a walk through the protected Old Town (Vecriga) between the Dome Cathedral in the north and the St. Peters Church in the south.
In the pedestrianised narrow streets many restored 17th century houses can be found. The Old Town of Riga is divided by the street Kalku iela into two halfs.

Fondest memory: Most of the buildings in Riga are well maintained, but there are delapidated buildings there like this building close to the tram- and bus station in the old town of Riga.
